The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne: Reviews
Negative experience: Have had 2 appointments cancelled at the last minute in the past 2 weeks. Very tricky and upsetting for a child with additional needs that has extreme anxiety leading up to these things. I don’t think it’s a reflection on the staff or dentists working there, all very caring. Shouldn’t happen twice in 2 weeks for a child. Very disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Had 4 wisdom teeth removed yesterday, 2 impacted. Was an amazing experience. Thank you to the nurses, Chris and Ethan for being so helpful before and after my surgery, and my dentist Louisia who also made me feel comfortable from start to finish. Highly recommended to anyone needing things done! Thank you guys
Negative experience: Went there with an exray from an emergency appt where i only paid $80 for consult and xray because i was eaiting for an appt with this hospital for over a month eventhiugh they were told i had severe pain and had to get antibiotics due ti gum infection. Was told i needed their xray done saying the one at private clinic xray wasnt clear eniugh. Go back to her in special needs department to be told it does need root canal or extraction but she cannot do it that day.. That was a week ago and ended up in hospital last night due to excruciating pain a 2am in the morning because by that time i already had finidhed the antibiotics. The pain was generating into my jaw eye and ear and everything from cold packs, anti inflammatories and peppermint tea was not helping. I found this cruel that the royal denal hospital sent me home after i already waited for so long. Definately malpractice
Fantastic experience: I cannot thank Dr. Anu and her wonderful assistant Corazon enough for the exceptional care they provided to my son after his injury during a footy game. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel at ease with their warm, friendly, and professional approach. Dr. Anu is truly a skilled and compassionate dentist who explained everything clearly and ensured my son felt comfortable throughout the treatment. Corazon was equally lovely—she was gentle, attentive, and took the time to ensure my son was relaxed and cared for. Their kindness, patience, and expertise made a stressful situation much easier for us. I am incredibly grateful for their help and highly recommend them to anyone looking for caring and professional dental care. Thank you Melbourne Royal Dental Hospital for your outstanding service.
Negative experience: Another unpleasant experience, another rude staff yesterday. A massive hospital that feels more like a dental training expo — full of newbies and mostly rude staff. It seems like the place was built solely for tooth extractions only, while other services are nearly impossible to access — like forbidden fruit in paradise, if they even exist.
Negative experience: Won't ever go back again for 16 months I was requested to go back and forth into the hospital to fix 2 teeth they butchered them so bad the student dentists that I had to go to a private surgery to have them extracted don't get me wrong the experienced senior dentist are Great like sayed but they do a patch up job they send you to L2 for the students to finish it off being on a pension doesn't help when I require dentistry at a private surgery
Positive experience: I’m using the student dental services for my teeth right now. The only thing that I don’t like, is there’s no parking for more than 3 hours which is required if you are using the student dentists, they need the time to be able to ask their trainers for feedback.
Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic experience: Honestly can’t Thank the staff at RDHM I had my file transferred from DPV health because the staff are on a totally different level and not next level I’m talking top tier care before that was totally ripped off to the tune off nearly $6k with a mouthful off nothing and barely able to eat by a Dentist in Thomastown can’t even imagine going anywhere else now Thankyou Dr Sayed and Jo, John and Noah and everyone at RDHM.
Fantastic experience: I'm so grateful and thankful to Dr.Adele and emergency surgery nurse Jayathri for doing my wisdom tooth extraction. I want to extend my thanks to the reception staff and xray staff. The service and treatment they gave me today is exceptional.
Negative experience: Worse place to go highly recommend not to go here services bad and the time is just stupid went at 8am my mum was in pain for so long and we was first one in line to walk in and everything and was waiting for almost 6 hours ♀️♀️
Fantastic experience: Came in a few days ago to get a couple of tooth extractions done staff were super helpful and made it very easy for me to be comfortable
Fantastic experience: No problems having 2 back teeth removed. No pain, Dentists were very caring.
Fantastic experience: Thank you to the Royal for seeing me yesterday for an emergency appointment (erupted infected wisdom tooth.) I had been in immense pain and visited the ER the day prior due to swelling/infection worries and received antibiotics, since my normal Dentist was booked out they recommended I visit the Royal due to me being a student and holding a health care card. The Royals admin team were so professional and nice despite many incredibly rude and demanding customers in the waiting area. I waited around 3 hours, I was able to be seen by a 4th year dental student and treating supervising team who were skilled, very friendly and able to answer all my questions. I received anesthetic as they cleaned out the infected area (washed out the gum around the erupted tooth) and now I'm referred for an oral surgeon in the public health system but I woke up today pain free and swelling has gone down 99%!! I initially paid $31 but was refunded because it was done by a student which is also a bonus. My advice is go early and be content with having to wait awhile to be seen. THANKYOU!!!
Fantastic experience: I took my daughter here as she had an abscess and was very pleased with the care and service taken to look after her after the triage The team were quick and efficient and they looked after my daughter with the highest standard of care, as she was only 8 they reduced her anxiety and made her feel very comfortable with the procedure. Thanks, Mo
Fantastic experience: i recently went to get my wisdom teeth removed and had a great experience. the staff are all really kind and caring, and i was very well looked after! :)
Fantastic experience: i was in the care of the royal melbourne dental hospital just yesterday to have four wisdom teeth removed. this was my first time being put to sleep under anaesthesia and i was extremely nervous. the entire time i was in the care of the staff i felt extremely reassured, safe, and comfortable. they were incredibly kind, gentle, and clear in all explanations. i had every question answered and felt very reassured in my worries. the pace of events during my time in hospital went by at an exceptional rate; i was seen very quickly and briefed, had x-rays done, and assured when i would be seen and who by. id especially like to thank Ethan, who, without needing to try, made me feel much more at ease about being in hospital. id also like to thank Michael, and each of the other doctors i saw whose names i unfortunately don’t remember. id like to thank the anaesthetist, who was incredibly comforting whilst putting me to sleep, and the entire team of doctors and nurses who conducted the procedure. i would recommend the royal dental hospital of melbourne to anyone, and as someone who was previously deathly afraid of hospitals and surgery, i can easily say i am far less afraid than i was before.
Fantastic experience: Didn't have to wait long the process was painless obviously as I was asleep. they explained everything so I knew what was going on (when I was a wake) the nurses and the anesthesia doctor were really kind. A big thankyou to them and a big thankyou to Ethan for helping me after my surgery your awesome
Fantastic experience: What an asset the Dental hospital is to be given dental treatment at an amazing price (with health care card) while trainee dentist's are supervised very well. Sadly I didn't get my dentist or his assistant's name but their supervisor Tatyana was amazing coaching the young dentist throughout what was a difficult extraction of a cracked rear molar, her calm demeanor soothed my nerves & helped the dentist complete the job, extra credit for the assistant who when she saw my jaw starting to lock after extended wide mouth opening massaged my jaw. The dentist is never fun but it was made a much more pleased experience with the staff, also credit to admin staff putting up with rude patients.
Fantastic experience: Staff were amazing and so helpful when I brought my elderly mother in. Highly recommend 5 stars.
Negative experience: I visited RDHM many times I was told lm excepted for dental work for my worn out front teeth's as l have severe problems with it yesterday 28 th April l was at the hospital again dentist told me lm rejected lm very upset and disappointed. Prior to yesterday's appointment l was seen by a male dentist l was very dissatisfied and suprised with he's questions to me for instance he asked me if l had millions dollars would l still attend RDHM or visit overseas to get my teeths done there? it was a irrelevant stupid question. in my opinion he didn't do he's dentist duties for me the moment l left the hospital l complained to my husband he's been arrogant and lm not comfortable with him . I want to take action and report him to relevant dental association.
Fantastic experience: Hi had a great experience the staff are friendly and the dentist were great and done a great job thanks
Negative experience: Called this morning as overnight I have had excruciating wisdom tooth pains and was told only emergency as it was ANZAC day which is fair and they could book me in first thing tomorrow to which I said I’d call back Called back later during the day and whoever spoke to me was very rude and told me that they don’t do appointments and that your not going to wait 2 weeks for an appointment if your in pain. I explained that I was told different this morning and he said well that’s incorrect and was very condescending and speaking down to me like I was stupid I Ended the conversation in tears Definitely wouldn’t recommend
Negative experience: I am writing to express my concern regarding the extended wait time experienced during our visit here today, on ANZAC Day, April 25th. I brought my 77-year-old father to the emergency dental hospital and we were triaged at approximately 9:45am. At that time, we were advised of the order in which patients would be seen, and it was communicated that priority would be given to certain groups, including the elderly. However, despite this, we waited over three hours to be seen. Between 8:00am and 12:45pm, we observed at least three other elderly patients who arrived after us being called in before my father. As of 12:45pm, there were approximately seven other patients in the waiting room, and my father appeared to be the only remaining elderly patient yet to be seen. I am concerned about the lack of consistency in prioritising elderly patients, particularly considering the discomfort and health risks that extended waiting periods may pose for seniors. I would appreciate clarification on the triage and patient prioritisation process, and whether the protocols in place are being followed appropriately. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and an explanation regarding the delay. Furthermore, I do appreciate the 4 dentists working today!
Fantastic experience: Great experience here today. The staff were all clear communicators and listened/showed care for myself and others in the waiting room, as well as the short duration of my stay. Thankfully, the xray cleared me, but I just wanted to express my gratitude for their care today.
Fantastic experience: After a long wait granted... I watched the reception staff have the patience of saints when people were difficult and rude, i was taken for my turn. I had dental work done at my dentist the day before that hadn't worked and I was in agony. My dentist couldn't take me before easter, This was my first experience have any dental work done and It ended up being extensive and very painful . My dentist Tash was extremely kind when I was upset ,& super patient explaining things when I was stressed out . Best of all I got to enjoy my waster not in pain. Thank you ALL! Teachers doing a great job! Thumbs uo from me
Negative experience: The public dental service took longer I. Needed to see them on a weekend but they were understaffed
Negative experience: Appalling service. I have extreme pain from a tooth. They took 20 mins just to be triage, all whilst the woman sat behind her triage desk seeing no one. My ticket when I got it from the machine said I was first in the queue. Finally, 20 mins later a man appeared at the triage desk and my number was called. He advised because I had not been in an accident or there was no visible swelling, I could not be seen. What can I do I asked? Go to a private dental clinic or doctor for pain relief. Where is one open on a weekend I asked. Don’t know. Perhaps the dental clinic up the road is open. It wasn’t. Why are they advertised as an emergency dental hospital. Apparently you need an appointment.
Fantastic experience: Was a patient today and also in recent months , this dental hospital is so helpful to thousands of low and zero income people ! The care and quality of service and surgery is very high and given with patience and love . I am 59 years old and need proper attention to my decay and root canal required ! Special mention to great persons and dentists in May , Linda and James !! True heroes they are !! I had a badly broken tooth and missing filling rebuilt very successfully with amalgam ,, a year has passed and it’s still going strong and pain free ! Thanks Royal Dental Hospital !!!!
Fantastic experience: Jackie from the dental hospital is incredible. I’ve seen him a couple of times, and every time he makes me feel safe, heard, and cared for. People like him don’t just do their jobs, they change lives. Please let him know he’s made a lasting impact on mine
Negative experience: Came in with my dad who is 76 yo he was in severe pain with his tooth on Sunday 23rd March 2025,there was 4 dentists, I was there from 8:30 am waiting for my dad to be called, one hour passed in waiting and the people who came after us were called before my dad. The acting senior dentist came out and said that they have 4 dentists and we will deal with the emergency patients. Well hello we are all there to be seen that is why we press on the screen to press emergency to get a number, we are in pain and you deal with all dentists. Have 2 dentists seeing emergency patients and the other 2 less serious like a tooth extraction. After 4 hrs which was 12:30 pm waiting and still not seeing I think the lady who always liked to take payment upfront put us on the bottom of the list. Then 4 pm came still not seen. What is going on? You take a number and you shouldn't be asked at the window what is your problem with your teeth it's not her business to ask. If you press emergency it's a emergency if it's a appointment it's a appointment. The number you get is the way you should be seen with the dentist. Come 5 pm still not seen I went to the desk I asked do you know what time I was here she goes NO well she was the one who served me in the morning, you can't remember I told her I was here 8:30am. I will check she said but no response she just walked off. So if you read this do not attend dental Hospital on weekends and also do not give what is wrong with you at the reception staff. There NOT helpful. 0 stars...

Negative experience: I got a completely incompetent receptionist who wasn't able to direct me to appropriate service or tell me how much teeth cleaning would cost. She asked all irrelevant questions and didn't listen at all. I said that I don't want my teeth to be cleaned by dental clinic students but by hygienist with an adequate experience. She tried to direct me to the community clinic and when I said that I want my teeth looked after at the Royal dental clinic, definitely after waiting more than 20 minutes on the phone. That person should not have a job.

Negative experience: Had our regular appointment today autho was amazing assistant amazing called due to running late due to traffic was on hold for 45 minutes to inform them still on call when I arrived to be greeted by a rude reception worker. travelled 2 hours to be told they may not see us thankfully they did. Spoke to autho about getting a certificate for partner due to having to stay home from work was greeted with angry sour look on receptionists face and was told I could not get the certificate as he was not there before saying anything I grabbed my child and walked away not looking back to be greeted again or should I say chased down by the same receptionists. When we go back I will be avoiding this person as it is not the first time we have had her grumpy manner. Please note we always run very early for appointments.

Negative experience: Waited in queue for an hour, only to be told I'm not eligible as I don't have a health care or concession card, when on the website it states that if you don't you can pay in full for $266. I was calling as I have an exposed nerve on my right molar causing unbearable pain. The man I spoke with was condescending and rude. Not only did he answer the phone with just a "hello?", when I told him I was seeking to book an emergency appointment, he replied "no... we don't do emergency appointments. We handle emergencies.". Train your staff better, and also don't have false information on your website.

Fantastic experience: I must say Admin was so helpful, they were patient and straight to the point and very respectful. Then when I had my dental appointment both the dentist and the assistant were so helpful, they were absolutely not judgemental at ALL. The dentist was so patient and helped answer any questions I had (and I had a lot). He was so clear and so kind. Soft spoken and genuinely such an awesome Angel. Giving just the advice I needed and the best service I’ve had. Then when I had an X-ray — front office were so polite. Not to mention the radiographer I had was absolutely a fantastic person for the job. So informative and overall genuinely cared about not only the x-ray but also my care. This was my first time coming to this fine establishment and definitely not the last. Well done!!!
Fantastic experience: Has always been a great hospital but now they are renovating it to improve it more for the future
Negative experience: Had implants put and was told they will maintain so I kept up with appointments one implant fell out had to go private cause of covid then i went back they lost my files . Today I went with ulcer from denture I had good treatment they cleaned but apparently they won't replace the implant that fell out. Oh I did see a specialist ln there last year for same problem but he said what a perfect denture . So it wobbles in my mouth .system is stuffed . From tongue ulcers gum ulcers cause of missing implant ill fitting half implant denture

Negative experience: The dental hospital has a stupid system. It takes 30-35 minutes for your number to be called. It's always only one receptionist on. Then they tell you if you're late, your appointment will be cancelled.

Positive experience: Firstly, I want to express my gratitude for the care and attention my grandmother received when we came through the emergency department. The staff and students were incredibly attentive to her needs, especially in managing her pain, and they were patient and understanding throughout the process. This aspect of our visit was excellent and greatly appreciated. However, I encountered an issue that I feel needs to be addressed. After our visit, we were referred to the specialist clinic. Four days later, I received a call stating that in order to proceed with the referral, an OPG x-ray was required. When I asked if we could have the x-ray done at the hospital, I was told that we would need to go to a GP or local dentist to get a referral for the x-ray. Even after multiple questions on why we couldn’t do it at the hospital, they did not give me a reason and told us to go to a GP. This process felt frustrating and inefficient. It seemed unreasonable to have to go through additional steps, including booking an appointment with a GP who is often booked out, just to obtain a referral for the x-ray. After receiving emergency care and being referred to a specialist, it seemed logical that the Royal Dental Hospital should have referred us directly to the x-ray department rather than requiring us to go through multiple steps outside the hospital. It’s like going to the hospital for a surgery and you’re told you need to do blood tests done but they tell you you can’t do it at the hospital. As a result from this experience, my grandmother and I spent extra time going to the GP, then the radiologist, and then back to the specialist clinic to provide the x-ray. This added unnecessary time, effort, and cost, as my grandmother had to pay to see the doctor for the referral. I believe the process could have been much more streamlined by having the Royal Dental Hospital handle the x-ray referral internally, saving us multiple trips and expenses.
Negative experience: We sat in line while a nurse was chatting with another nurse for a long time, eventually she said that the appointment was over and my 6 year old child was sent home with a toothache. Maybe we should see patients with toothache instead of talking at the workplace!
Negative experience: Due to a tooth infection, the left upper side of my face swelled up, and I could not get into a dentist for two weeks. I went to a doctor who prescribed me a stong course of two antibiotics lasting a week. The swelling was reduced but I was left with two large lumps one under my left eye and another on my gum. So went back to the doctor for more antibiotics and he explained that there was no point taking more antibiotics as the lumps are systs due to the infection that needed to be drained and that I need to go to the Melbourne Dental Hospital emergency. So immediately after the doctors appointment I rang the MDH to see if I needed an appointment and they said no just come in the morning to the emergency. I did as I was told to do and waited two and a half hours for my number to be called up only to find out that because the person I spoke to the night before on the phone didn't triage me over the phone they could not fit me today. One more sleepless night due to intense pain grrrrrrr.

Negative experience: went there few months ago, they Doctors are so rude, they act like they treat us for free, he took out my teeth while he shouldn't, and made me go through one of the worst pain tbh i never had any good experience with public dental service, only if we could afford private clinics i would never go to them. my advice if u can afford private clinics do not go to them, they are really bad.

Negative experience: Poor customer service and communication. I called once and they weren't going to see me. I called again and spoke to someone else and an appointment was booked in. They don't reply to emails either which is made worse by the fact that when you call they direct you to the email address.
Fantastic experience: had my wisdom teeth removed earlier today. The surgeon and his team were wonderful, professional and accommodating, always were willing to answer my questions and inquires which made me feel more comfortable and less stress. The procedure was very quick taking under an hour and was seamless and painless. Moreover once the extraction was completed the surgeon was more than happy and lay out the post op instructions and to write out a prescription to ensure that the pain could be minimized. Thank you Royal Dental Hospital and to the surgeon who I forgot to ask his name, thank you Anna the dental assistant
Fantastic experience: Recently visited Royal Dental Hospital for dental emergency for family member and was treated by Dr Nicole. Dr Nicole gave a very thorough examination of the tooth condition, clearly explained what needs to be done and provided the necessary treatment in a very efficient manner. Didn’t feel being rushed at all and the entire experience was a completely stress-free one. Highly impressed by Dr Nicole’s very caring nature, empathy to the patient’s concern and her exceptional professionalism. Dr Nicole is truly an exemplary dentist that cares for the patient and knows what needs to be done. Thank you once again for your outstanding and second-to-none professional service, Dr Nicole! Would also like to take the chance to thank the entire team at Royal Dental Hospital for your dedication and hard work in such a highly demanding environment. You all deserve to be well respected and highly commended.
Negative experience: I want to clarify that my negative review is solely due to the conduct of the reception staff. The dentist and assistants were excellent—both professional and highly skilled in their work. However, it appears that the expectations of respect and courtesy, as emphasized in the signage everywhere, apply only to patients and not to the staff themselves (at least not at the reception desk)! Behavior that was dismissive, rude, and driven by personal biases rather than fairness. Respect should be mutual! Financial limitations should never be a justification for treating patients as second-class citizens. Every individual deserves to be treated with dignity and professionalism and not by personal bias.

Negative experience: Medical professionals only prescribe cope here and then bully you. I love to be profiled, I loved to be mistreated medically and professionally. I love medical professionals and receptionist belittling patients to feel better about their lives and offering zero solutions like it’s not their job. Great time. Keep those wisdoms baby, it’s peoples fault for growing them. You won’t get medical help unless you look rich and white and are as arrogant and egotistical as the staff I guess, but you’d go to a private dentist if that were the case
Negative experience: Yesterday was an extremely difficult day. I hadn’t eaten or drunk anything since speaking with a night nurse at 8 a.m., who recommended I go to the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital’s emergency department. I arrived in significant pain and waited for six hours without any proper food or water, feeling increasingly exhausted. The waiting area was chaotic and overwhelming. It was understaffed, with emergency and general appointments merged, and the environment became progressively louder and more uncomfortable as time went on. When I finally got to see someone, they only performed an X-ray and offered no real treatment or solutions for my pain. The dentist I saw was dismissive and insulting. Despite my explaining my medical conditions and efforts to manage my dental hygiene, she ignored me, interrupted repeatedly, and blamed my pain on “laziness.” She dismissed the fact that my wisdom tooth is growing sideways and overcrowding my other teeth, which has caused significant pain and damage. She didn’t address my other concerns, like the pressure on my teeth, the chipped enamel, or cavities, and instead made condescending comments about flossing and salt rinses - things I already do. The entire visit felt pointless. I was told to wait six months for someone “trained” to help me or go private if I wanted quicker care. I was also advised to see my GP if the pain worsens, instead of relying on the hospital for antibiotics or other assistance. After spending $40 and enduring hours of discomfort and dismissal, I left feeling defeated and like my time and money had been wasted. The night nurse I spoke with before going in was far more professional and compassionate than anyone I dealt with in person. It’s so frustrating to deal with this level of care when all I want is proper treatment for a genuine medical issue that is severely affecting my health and well-being. I felt like crying when I got home because the entire experience left me feeling so dehumanised.

Negative experience: Such a racist staff at the reception. Very disappointed I have seen many racist but this guy is another level
Negative experience: I spent 7 hours waiting, not eating or drinking water to be seen after crying and not sleeping for two days to be told to deal with it because they can’t do anything but still talk down to me, great thanks

Fantastic experience: It was a long wait to get this operation done but im sure there's many people waiting and can't really be helped. Really happy and appreciative with how things turned out. Thanks to all the nurses, dentists and surgeons that worked on me.
Fantastic experience: Excellent staff, great treatment. Instant pain relief and resolution of a long standing problem Amazingly relaxed and caring staff keep up the informed consent and insights along the way. Thank you! The only negative thing is a noisy triage being filled with very rude patients trying to scam their way to the front of the line.
Negative experience: Very shit experience, got a root canal done that wasn’t done right. Been in so much pain all because of one dentist ruining it. Also made me wait two hours in the waiting room even when I had an appointment very disappointing.

Fantastic experience: I went here to have my wisdom teeth removed in early November, everyone I met on the day was kind, respectful and professional and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. I’m really glad I went here to have it done and would definitely recommend them. -Adeline
Negative experience: The first line response at the dental hospital is to turn you away as they are too busy. Another good reason why dental services should be covered by Medicare.
Fantastic experience: A bit of a wait, but that's because of the high volume of people. Couldn't fault the care I received so efficient and explained everything in detail. .Lovely staff..
Positive experience: I want to express my gratitude to the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne for their exceptional service during my husband's recent emergency. Dr. Syed Naqvi was an incredible help; he took the time to explain everything thoroughly and made sure we felt informed and comfortable. The hospital managed to get my husband in promptly, even though it was an urgent situation, and I appreciated this accommodation very much. Thank you to Dr. Naqvi and the entire team for their kindness and professionalism during a stressful time.
Fantastic experience: I got extensive treatment at teaching hospital. The student name who treated me is Zoe. I had to go through root canal, she did excellent job. She explained everything to me. I highly recommend getting treatment from teaching hospital if you can wait to get a treatment.
Positive experience: I called many times for an appointment but was told every time i called to come in and wait in the queue. As i did i was told by reception that I should have an appointment if i want to be seen otherwise get an emergency ticket and wait in the queue. I waited for about 2-3 hours. Some times the staff would spend 30 minutes with one person so a few numbers before mine i went to use the bathroom and when i came back my number had been skipped and a staff told me I couldn’t be seen. She eventually made me an appointment. When I arrived for that appointment i was told that it was somehow canceled. I had to wait a little longer but i was eventually seen. The appointment experience was pretty bad but I ended up getting my wisdom teeth removal here and the staff were kind and treated me with care. Based on the other reviews, the call staff and reception staff aren’t on the same page. Each will tell you a completely different thing or procedure. This issue needs to be resolved.
Negative experience: It’s acceptable a call to be held for 20+ minutes in the morning since they opened. However, it is not acceptable to be treated disrespectfully during the conversation, especially when the receptionist is impolite, using an impatient tone and displaying a bad attitude and trying to finish the call soon.
Positive experience: I attended the Royal Dental Emergency on the 11th of October, as I was a private patient and did not have a healthcare card I paid an amount of $266 upfront. I was seen by a beautiful physician who was helpful, was told that my severe toothache was sinus related and to get in antibiotics to help relieve the pain, the Physician also told me to go to the reception desk as I was getting a refund from the $266 paid. There was a lady at the reception desk who was more concerned about going through her mobile phone that dealing with us the patients. Instead of refunding me $177 the lady charges us another $177, I knew she had made a mistake she smiles to herself and then redoes something and hands me a receipt for $177 refund.. says she made a mistake and has cancelled the payment taken. No paperwork given for the extra charges she made which legally she should have given me. Yes I got the refund for the $177 that she had mistakenly taken but I had not bed. Refunded the amount of $177 from the original amount of $266 paid. Getting through to someone to now help me is a nightmare. Now I have been asked to wait that someone will call me. We do not have large amounts in our account and I need this money for my bills. Can someone please contact me for a mistake made by a careless person who was worried about her phone. I am still in pain and this is an added stressful situation
Fantastic experience: The reception staff didnt handle my appointment very well, I was told a place would be held for me in the queue if I were to arrive after 11am.. When I arrived the woman I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about and told me that wasn't something they do. I had to make an appointment and return the following week. The waiting experience with disgruntled patients isn't pleasant, at all.. But that can't be helped. The student dentists that helped me, Steven and Natasha, were amazing! They explained everything really well and could answer my questions and concerns with ease. They did a fantastic job for the price I paid! I HIGHLY recommend making an appointment if you can live with your dental pain for a few days.. If you need emergency dental treatment and can't afford to see a regular dentist, this is most certainly the place to go!
Negative experience: The Dental hospital sraff are working well together and explained.Professionall work. They are studued that,so do their best and give you anasthetic which reduced the pain.
Fantastic experience: Dr Beatrice Ho and Linda are the best team! -- I'm so fortunate that they've been there for my wisdom teeth extractions. I've had a long history of horrible dental experiences that I've been putting this off for years. I'm already highly anxious and they have been so supportive the entire way. Not once did I have any doubts while in their care. Sincerely, I couldn't have asked or even hoped for better. Thank you so much
Fantastic experience: I was attended within reasonable time of waiting and services provided by the dentist and specialist were really exceptional. Highly appreciate and thanks the doctors and assistant for attending my emergency needs . Very positive experience.
Fantastic experience: For anyone nervous about their wisdom teeth surgery please read (I had 4 impacted removed): Every staff member I interacted with, from the front door and reception to nurses/dental surgeons were AMAZING!! I was pretty nervous given I’ve never really had a trip to a hospital or a surgery, but the team did such an amazing job and made it as comfortable as possible. My anaesthetist, I believe her name was Kayla or Kayley, was particularly great. During the interview she raised any concerns I had and reassured me of the safety of the procedure. I got into surgery around 2pm roughly and walked out by around 4:30pm. Yes it does take a bit of time on the waitlist , given it is a public hospital. However, it’s so worth the wait, particularly as private is such an expensive option. I’ve had no complications as of so far and am enjoying lots of scrambled eggs and ice cream!! Update: at the 2 week mark in healing, absolutely no issues whatsoever, healing perfectly! No complications at all.
Thank you, Amber!
Fantastic experience: My son Michael, was in serve pain and went to the dental hospital second time! … Firstly ,you’re greeted by a security guard. She was helpful at giving directions and kind! Then the emergency staff were amazing! The dentist and dental assistant were kind, patient and made my son feel in control of his treatment. During the procedure, they asked my son if he was okay and he could take a break when needed. They truly cared about his health and well-being! So much gratitude towards all staff at the hospital. Thank you so much for making my sons experience a great one. Especially him having mental health issues, and as a mother, thank you from the bottom of my heart! Jennifer Watson
Thank you Jennifer!
Fantastic experience: I'm so happy today first time visit this hospital for my 3 yr son . They doing very good job . Filling and try save tooth . The doctor . Nurse . Xtray lady all amazing . Professional . Make my son feel comfortable and follow all what they said . 3.30 appointment. We coming early 3.15 . Just seat 1 minute straigh in . Keep doing very amazing job
Thank you Wiwin!
Fantastic experience: Melbourne is really lucky to have the Royal Dental Hospital. The Staff Clinicians are extraordinary in so many ways, I’ve been using their services for two years now, preparing for dentures and I now finally have them. Where else in Australia could you get a complete set of of double tailor-made dentures for less than $250 ?
We really appreciate you sharing your experience. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: The staff were amazing and my dentist exceptional!! I have great faith that each visit will help me achieve a healthy mouth !!
Fantastic experience: I would like to say a big thank you to my Primary care Dentist- Dr Anastasia Kalantzis & Marijana who both took amazing care of me today and made my experience calming and relaxing as iv had a lot of work done over the three days. I have to say i was so impressed with how I was informed from the beginning and through the process and was kept distracted with a laugh as they allowed me to listen to some music and kept me comfortable, l really felt a quality of care as a patient and l truly appreciated the team effort given by both ladies the quality of care given by Dr. Anastasia Kalantzis & Marijana was outstanding
Fantastic experience: Our 9 year old son broke a tooth roller skating at a party and the care from the dentists & staff here was absolutely incredible! I cannot fault them at all. Very very happy
Fantastic experience: Was great, went with great fear not knowing what to expect. From the man at the front door with his photos showing me what to do and where to go was a good start. The receptionist was polite and professional processing me quickly. The young Doctor and Nurse were lovely caring and efficient. The Boss/Supervisor was efficient treating both myself and his staff with dignity and respect. I can not speak highly enough if the entire organisation. Bruce
Negative experience: Signed paperwork for my son 10 months ago. Dentist explained he needed extensive work to save teeth which are important to be saved. We required clearance from the cardiologist which we got. We were seen about 6 months ago and the dentist told me she had been on the phone to the surgical department to stress that my son had been waiting for a long time. Surgical department were still stressing that they were worried about doing work due to cardiac condition which I will stress again has a clearance letter. The dentist reminded them of this and assured me he would be seen soon. Well.... no, we are still waiting. My son is now in severe pain and guess what we can't even get through on the phone line. When we finally do get through we are disconnected when transferring to the appropriate department or the call just cuts out. Been on hold for hours. All of this treatment was needed to save teeth important for his development. No doubt he is going to end up losing them now due to complete negligence on RDH's part. How can the Surgical department say they require documentation only to ignore you when you supply it? The trauma my son has already experienced due to the pain is ridiculous. There's a good chance he will have no teeth left y the time the dental hospital responds.... if they ever do.

Fantastic experience: The dentist and all the staff are amazing. I had an emergency visit Tuesday and treated Wednesday. Compassionate, professional and wonderful staff . Thank you to my surgeon who was beautiful and caring and I felt very safe and confident in my treatment
Negative experience: 0 starts only star there because it's needed to share review, rmdh awful service I went in for an extraction operation to remove bad teeth, instead was told I would be getting fillings of which the students botched the operation & I was then placed on a list waiting for over a year to have the operation I needed from the start. Returned to have the extractions only to be told that they would be fillings again so will never use this service again, been in pain for months & when I went to this service I was not helped at all. Thank you but no thank you, never again. Do not recommend this service & you are better off just living in pain.

Fantastic experience: Royal Dental Hospital Melbourne Excellent service. Detailed explanation given re problem I have. Due to my age several options explained in detail. I was most impressed by staff courtesy and level of care.
Fantastic experience: The wait was longer than I expected, i took my son here, overall wonderful doctors, nurse's, reception staff, hospital is very clean, especially the bathrooms, the standard is very high for public hospital. overseas private hospitals are not even close to this hospital, thank you so much.
Fantastic experience: This was my first experience with a dentist in the public sector, and it far exceeded any care I had previously received from private dentists. The staff's professionalism, knowledge, and respect were evident from the moment I walked in. They took the time to explain every procedure and answer all my questions, which made me feel comfortable and well-informed throughout my visit. The level of care and attention I received was exceptional. Each team member demonstrated a genuine commitment to patient care, ensuring I felt supported and understood at every step. The atmosphere was welcoming and reassuring, significantly easing my anxiety about the visit. I feel incredibly fortunate to have received such outstanding dental care. This experience has truly changed my perspective on public healthcare services. With sincere appreciation, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire dental team for their exemplary service.
Thank you Annika!
Negative experience: I had a trauma I felt from a tree my jaw was moving my bite not in the right position there is a crack in my jaw my 2 front teeth is death but I only been see by student and stay on waiting list for root canal while I’m in pain. When I was last seen by a student jaw specialist and ask to come back in 3 months for review. Anyway I when to see my private specialist now I to go through a big surgery to fix my jaw in that the student specialist at said to me it just muscle go and see physio hahahaa

Negative experience: Staff talking over you on the phone, that's great. Been waiting a year and a half to have wisdom teeth removed and the receptionist on the phone tells me that if my concession card expires before I reach the top of the list then I will be taken off the list. Great system!

Fantastic experience: Excellent service. The dentist that treated my dental emergency was so gentle and he really took care, didn't even feel the needle into gum. Thank you.
Positive experience: I needed my wisdom teeth taken out surgically because they are attached to my sinuses. Pain is excruciating was referred to and examined at Royal Melbourne told we'll probably take them out in 6 months. Never heard from them again. Edit 2 years on from first appointment I got surgery staff were amazing but the communication through referral wait period was terrible improving rating from 1-3 due to wonderful nurses.

Negative experience: I have been to the emergency department in a lot of pain few times now I am on the waitlist however it is two year before I will get an appointment. Each time I come in at 830 I attend triage and then wait patiently. Everytime it has been over a 6hr wait. I have seen people come in wait for an hour start yelling and getting mad at reception for having to wait and they end up getting seen before me. I'm starting think I need to yell and scream at reception and be rude af just to get seen sooner.

Negative experience: I had an appointment during Covid that was a Telehealth and I can honestly say I would not recommend the dentist I saw that day as she was very rude as well as judgey and discriminatory. She discriminated against me because I had a major needle phobia driven by sensory issues and ended reducing me to tears. When I asked whether or not there was anything else we could do she claimed she’d get her manager to call me but no one ever bothered to call me I had to fight for over 2 years to finally get an appointment with dentists at this clinic who understand sensory issues that is meant to happen this month and I honestly hope it’s a lot better than my first experience with this clinic was.

Negative experience: Suggest the hospital kindly remove emergency dental from their service area. Simply be responded of seeking for private dentists on Sunday after waiting 15mins in as 'First position' in the calling queue. Severe pain for three days having only fluid and 6h sleep in total is not ELIGIBLE patient? Probably the reception is not ELIGIBLE to exist anymore.

Negative experience: Got my wisdom teeth out here. Dentist did all the stitches wrong so now I bite down on my flapping gum cheek and cannot eat. I have massive holes in all corners of my mouth - I repeat - they did not do the stitches correctly. Food was reaching my jaw bone. I was unable to eat for 10 days and was hospitalised. I have to have another surgery to correct my internal cheek flapping around. Do not go here. Do not bring kids here.

Negative experience: Got my 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed, it cost me $120 which is the only good thing about this experience. In recovery i had extreme nausea and was sick multiple times, they administered anti nausea through a needle- then sent me home without any nausea relief, yet had no issue sending me home with codeine ect. I was violently ill for 3 days, calling and asking for a script for anti nausea- they refused to give me ANYTHING. i couldn't keep down water, pain medicine or eat. I was in horrible pain and had ripped though nearly all my stitches, i was dehydrated and had a fever. I was hospitalised. Overall, a very traumatic experience, my advice is to DEMAND anti nausea medicine if you feel sick at all otherwise you might have a similar experience to me. I would never recommend to anyone!!! better off going on a payment plan at a private dentist and having a good and safe experience.

Fantastic experience: I just found my first experience at the Dental Clinic was very positive.Firstly the original phone call to the reception was helpful,as I was assessed on my emergency situation. The security people at this facility were very helpful. Also the personal triage assessment and the requested information ( which I did on the phone) went along very seamlessly. The Dentist and assistant were so kind and caring as they told me all the options available.I ended up choosing a tooth extraction of a upper molar and this procedure was done in a professional and competent manner.I was then given all the liturature and verbal explanation of my care of the wound .
Fantastic experience: Extremely understanding and calming to my fear of dentistry. Everyone I have ever had an interaction with at RDH has gone above and beyond to meet all my needs. Well worth the waiting list. Super tip - Take MUSIC to drown out the sounds.. it's the ONLY way I cope. I use my ipod.. Special thanks to the Teaching Clinic.. they are all amazing.
Negative experience: 3-4 YEARS wait for 5 extractions for special needs clients was informed today. My son is now distraught at the thought of all this pain for years! Can't eat, can't sleep, no pain relief.

Fantastic experience: We have had great experience with the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne. Dr. Shangeetha and her team at level 1 were amazing. Especially Dr. Shangeetha, she's great with kids who need extra support. My son felt comfortable and was scared when he was on the chair. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Upon my visit followed by my booked appointment that staff that looked after me did beyond and amazing job. The first day was difficult for him and I thought he stood by me. I commend him for an excellent job and hope more of the staff there. Follow his service. Work ethic, expertise. Top Job
Fantastic experience: I chipped one of my upper teeth over the weekend and was fortunate to have it repaired today. The Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital is such a wonderful set up and I would highly recommend this dental hospital to all pensioners. I had a young dental student, Tom who was so good. His work was inspected by his supervisor who was most impressed. Hearing his words left me even more impressed. Thank you Tom and all the best in the future. Barry Bourke
Negative experience: This hospital is so Judge shaming. I was supposed to get my three wisdom teeth, removed surgery I was supposed to go in there for a date and time to have this done. Instead I got body shamed. The Chinese doctor was body shaming me really badly. He was saying about my BMI that I was too heavy that I couldn’t have my surgery done at the hospital. I do not recommend this hospital to nobody. This hospital is such a disgrace. They keep wanting me to have multiple ultrasounds when I’ve already had one this hospital is so bad.

Negative experience: Called up as I need a wisdom tooth removal. I attended here a few years ago for a root canal treatment. The lady told me because im not aboriginal, Torres straight islander or on centrelink that I cannot have any treatment and I have to see a private dentist. Basically called me a liar when I said I had been seen in the past also. It's a shame that as an Australian Citizen, I can not be treated because im not of dark skin or doll bludge on Centrelink Despite paying my taxes to support the healthcare, I get no healthcare support myself.

Negative experience: It’s been over two and and a half years and my mouth isn’t fully healed yet. I had a trainee working on taking two of my wisdom teeth out. It was traumatising and an experience I would never want to experience again. It was just awful. I didn’t post something right away because I thought I was just overthinking it but clearly it’s been awhile now and honestly I’ve learnt my lesson. Just pay for dental, for peace of mind don’t come here unless your doing something basic .. even then idk! Update: went on the link and the page says unavailable on the dhsv website.

Fantastic experience: I have severe dental anxiety and other conditions that make visits to the dentist pretty difficult. Both times I've had an emergency, I've been treated by exceptional dentists who I couldn't be more grateful for. Be prepared to wait a bit as public dental is pretty overbooked but it is clean, professional and the dentists often understand (without judgement) your struggles.
Negative experience: Receptionists are terrible. The 1 star is purely for the rude, inefficient, way too quick to get off the phone, speak too quiet on the phone even after you ask them nicely to speak louder and/or repeat something over and over, unprofessional receptionists. If I could give no stars for them I would. 1 girl receptionist I asked repeatedly to speak louder and she refused to do so, then kept saying it was my fault I couldn't hear.. just unacceptable behaviour as far as treating a patient/customer etc I have had to call back to fix the mistakes that were previously made to make sure my appointment was secure as of right dates and times etc... I have called also to secure an app for a certain time which was left to me to call back and when I called back, got a new receptionist to quickly dismiss me saying no we don't have that time, nothing available, I proceeded to say no I am returning call as I was told to, to pick out of 2 app times etc, then all of a sudden he put me on hold for a second time, came back on phone to say yes that is available... not on. Otherwise brilliant hospital in general- clean, brilliant dentists and trainee/student dentists. 5/5 for the true health professionals with the real qualifications, so caring and so efficient!

Positive experience: I came on a Sunday and was greeted by a young Asian male at the front desk who was not polite, unfriendly and unhelpful. Asked him questions only to be given a rude reply. Terrible attitude to be giving to a patient in pain. The dentist on duty was very caring, and resolved my issue efficiently.
Fantastic experience: My phobia has been ended after my experience with the staff and procedures at this hospital. It seems wrong to say it was a pleasure but t have nothing else. Caring, efficient, informative, gentle, all of that.
