Symmetry Dental - Dr Michael Ryan

Positive experience: Took my son for a consult but didn't proceed with treatment as no one in the practice has an orthodontic qualification. Very pleasant and knowledgeable but I would prefer a qualified orthodontist to apply orthodontic treatment on my son.

Fantastic experience: I couldn’t be more thrilled at the results for my teenage son after treatment from Dr Patrick Ryan (and a respiratory clinic w Michael Ryan). His crowded teeth are beautifully straight, his palate is wide and round, he sleeps better, he now nose breathes instead of mouth breathing, he breathes better all around, his recessed jaw has come forward and looks incredible, his face shape has changed for the better too!. All this in two years with palate expander, twin block and braces (for less cost than the two other orthodontists I got quotes from) and NO TEETH REMOVED. Patrick was also genuinely caring, invested, friendly and honest through the whole process - and my second son has just started treatment too. Couldn’t be MORE relieved that I found symmetry after a friend recommended them (and shudder to think if I had gone with other Ortho who wanted to remove a bunch of healthy teeth!). Highly recommend!!! The photo of his palate never ceases to amaze me!

Negative experience: Orthodontics 5⭐️ dentists 1⭐️s My daughter goes to the orthodontist here and they have been excellent - could not recommend Patrick and the team highly enough. For this reason I went to get dental work and it was the complete opposite. I went for an initial appointment and asked how much before I went, they told me it would be just an initial consultation fee ($85). When I walked out of the appointment I was told the appointment was $2100 that I had no choice but to pay. To make it worse when I had to go back to have the crown placed in my mouth I was charged a further $550 for a 10minute appointment (that again I was not told would be an extra cost). I am very upset that I was not given a choice or informed about the cost and therefore forced to pay $2650 when if I had have been advised of the cost I would have waited to have this treatment done later in the year. The dentistry was excellent and the crown is great but the communication about the cost etc was unsatisfactory and caused unnecessary stress. I need further dental treatment but now am not sure if I will return or find a new dentist.

Fantastic experience: I couldn't recommend Symmetry Dental enough. It's been an absolute pleasure going to see Dr. Patrick Ryan. The whole practice is a relaxed, caring environment. I've referred friends, family, and acquaintances who all say the exact same thing. The Ryans' holistic view on dentistry, orthodontics, and oral medicine is changing so many lives in the Canberra region.

Fantastic experience: Dr Patrick Ryan is the kindest and most excellent orthodontic specialist in Canberra. He is the go-to person for orthodontic issues. The staff is excellent, and the moment you enter the practice, you feel loved and respected by everyone. I highly recommend everyone consider him for their orthodontic needs.

Highly professional, thorough, knowledgable beyond words, very clear with explanations, an uplifting, kind medical practitioner. As a patient I felt I could trust him and he could answer all my questions - which was very comforting after having broken my jaw and receiving very poor advice elsewhere. He explained the recovery process and what treatment is fitting (a splint) and why. I would absolutely recommend him as well as Dr. Joseph Ryan and Dr. Patrick Ryan. Great team and great service. Fantastic experience: About the most friendly practice I’ve ever been to. I’ve known Michael Ryan for years. He’s extremely knowledgeable because he understands and shares the big picture. I tried using a sleep apnea machine at a private company. Michael suggested trying a special sleep device which works like a dream- no apnea WHEN I wear it. Robert Waits, is an outstanding dentist who has fixed major complex dental issues. I’ve never felt any pain during his treatment!

Fantastic experience: Amazing! Saw a specialist here, Dr Ryan. Both Dr Ryan and the reception team are incredible. Got quotes from another clinic - they were so much more expensive, and recommended therapies that potentially my not address my concerns. Hoeever, Dr Rya gave really practical advice and solutions to address all my concerns. Only being out of pocket $6 following health insurance rebate was a nice bonus. If you have TMJ, go here!

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Symmetry dental, I just had root canal treatment done by Rob who is an expert in his field. He did a very fine job and talked me through the whole process which kept me connected to what was going on, He took the time to answer any questions that I had and address any concerns that I had, he is extremely polite aswell. I felt supported and I trusted both Rob and his assistant Edwina throughout this procedure. Also, though it is understandably expected after this treatment, I had no post pain, I did not need to take any pain relief after both the initial and follow up appointments, thanks again Symmetry, Rob and Edwina I'd also like to mention Patrick who took top care of my daughter, Ella with her braces, his manner is so lovely and friendly and reassuring and he is also very knowledgeable in what he does, his work is just so fine too. There have been others on the team that have helped our family also, all of which I'd recommend Thanks again for our dental health and well being.

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Symmetry Dental by my physiotherapist after going in to get my jaw loosened multiple times, as it was causing bad headaches. From the first visit at symmetry they identified I had quite bad TMJ disorder, said the best thing to do to correct and widen my jaw, to help the pain was orthodontics. I got the braces, had them for 12 months and have only just had them taken off. Every visit was pleasant, professional, and friendly. The team are amazing it’s such a big happy family atmosphere. I no longer have awful headaches thanks to the work of Patrick, couldn’t be happier. My fiancé and my 4 year old son are now patients of Symmetry. They know their stuff and they make it happen. Fantastic experience: The whole team at Symmetry Dental have been so great at helping my adult daughter with her TMJ and Sleep Apnoea, her issues are complicated but they have listened to her and validated her concerns and have been a great support. I have made their practice my practice as well and couldn't be happier with the new veneers that Dr Rob Waites put on my top front teeth and improved my smile- wish I had done it sooner! He has such a lovely manner and makes me feel very comfortable not matter what work I am having done. The reception team are also awesome!

Fantastic experience: Quite easily the nicest and most accommodating staff on reception I have ever had the experience of dealing with and this is particularly comforting when you are dealing with pain. I was able to get in quickly and for repeat follow ups for acute pain associated to jaw dysfunction. Dr Ryan and the dental team are second to none and regularly consulted with each other to determine the best treatment and it’s working.

Fantastic experience: Before seeing Dr. Patrick at Symmetry I saw an orthodontist who only gave me the option to either have teeth removed or surgery. I spoke to a number of friends who said to go see Dr. Patrick for a second opinion as they and their children have had such great treatment at Symmetry. Patrick did not remove any of my teeth. Instead broadened my smile, improved my sleep, and saved me from my headaches! The rest of the staff who work there are also just as lovely and experienced. Fantastic experience: This place is the ONLY place to go to for orthodontic treatment and jaw related problems. I can't recommend them highly enough. My oldest sons had orthodontic treatment elsewhere that cost a bomb and was a total disaster! Now having to have re treatment at Symmetry Dental. Fortunately i had found them in time for my youngest sons treatment and they did a fabulous job that has actually worked, cost less and in half the time. Thank you so much.

Fantastic experience: Both of my daughters received treatment from Symmetry Dental. Several orthodontists we saw previously were wanting to remove teeth which concerned me. I decided on Michael Ryan as he gave me information I hadn't heard from the other orthodontists. He had a more conservative approach and no mention of taking out teeth. Both my girls have had braces and completed treatment with Symmetry. I am really pleased with the practice and felt they were very considerate regarding cost. My girls had a great experience and outcome. (and still have all their teeth) Definately worth getting an opinion from them.

Fantastic experience: Have suffered chronic neck pain for over 10 years, was told nothing more could be done until i saw Michael Ryan at Symmetry dental, he worked out in minutes it was actually my jaw joint (TMJ) referring the pain to my neck and head. The treatment so far has reduced my pain and headaches significantly. Now about to start jaw expansion and braces etc to make my mouth bigger for my tongue to help my sleep apnea. They have an amazing team of people, like Matt Ryan the breathing specialist, Chris Neil the kinesiologist and they also link in with my physio and sports physician. They think outside the box and look at you as a whole person, not just your mouth.

Fantastic experience: I have been seeing see Dr Robert Waites for the past 5 years. When I first visited I had crooked and worn bottom teeth and chipped and worn top teeth. I now have teeth that I can be proud of. He also assisted with a repayment scheme at the time of the major work. I recently required an implant after a work accident and Robert recommended a great specialist in Canberra as well as orchestrating the restoration with another of his colleagues. Fantastic experience: Have been very impressed by the knowledge and care of Dr Matt Ryan who has assisted my child with breath retraining to support concurrent orthodontic work. Would highly recommend this practice.

Negative experience: I will never return to or recommend symmetry dental in Kingston. I went in with one problem and was advised I needed 20k worth of work to my teeth. I have since received a second opinion who have recommended no work needed at this stage. I got the impression symmetry dental wanted to prescribe as much work as possible!

Fantastic experience: I have had severe neck pain most of my adult life ( I"m 62 ). I have been to many Specialists over the years with little success. Constantly grinding my teeth over the years had also damaged my teeth and cracked many of my fillings. Symmetry Dental repaired my fillings and set me up with an appointment to see one of their associates - Chris Neil. After several visits to Mr Neil, he was able to realign my neck and Symmetry Dental fitted me with a set of pivots on my teeth to stop my nightly grinding and clenching. I only wear the pivots at night whilst sleeping. The results have been outstanding. My neck pain has all but disappeared and I am no longer taking Panadol on a daily basis for pain relief. Symmetry Dental came highly recommended to me - I drive down from Sydney to Canberra to see them, and would recommend them to anyone else with similar problems. Considering what Symmetry achieved, I consider the treatment to have been very cost effective. I would not go anywhere else and now my wife and my three children also use Symmetry, as are other members of my family after seeing my results.
