Fantastic experience: Dr Statila knew I preferred not to be numb as I was going to lunch as she patiently drilled slowly and carefully to not cause me any pain to do my filling.. amazing! On top of that she gave me such a great scale and clean I felt like I was having a spa treatment! Parking was easy enough and the practice is beautifully located just across from Coogee Beach. Negative experience: It was about 13 years ago. I went with 2 kids and partner. We all had bad experiences. My review is below. Note that this is from 13 years ago. The dentist has hopefully got better and has a bigger client base and is no longer doing unnecessary work on people to make appointments. I have over 750 reviews and do not lightly make a bad review. (Pointing out a lot of the good reviews for this place, the reviewer has only 1 to 5 reviews against their name. Not saying they are not true reviews, but suggesting these people are happy customers who have been asked to make a review on Google. Not a regular reviewer). Scale and clean was done. Check up said that my gold filling was loose and I had to come back. The gold filling didn't feel loose or have any problems. On the second visit, the dentist spent 30 minutes trying to get the gold filling out. The gold filling would not come out. So much for it being loose. I still have the gold filling in my mouth 13 years later. My current dentist still says the gold filling while large is fine. The owner of the practice first claimed I wasn't a customer there. I confirmed I was by providing my full name. This is definitely the dental practice I went to. This is not me being confused about the practice. 100% positive I have the right place. I checked the photos out the front of the office. The owner of the practice then claimed they were not trying to remove my gold filling. Trust me, they were. I am one of thousands of customers. The dentist is the only one who was in my mouth trying to pull out my gold filling. The dentist claimed their was a second filling on the same tooth. The dentist would know that this is not possible on that tooth. The gold filling is so large that I have been told by my current dentist (of 12 years) any further work on that tooth will be a root canal. The dentist did not remove a cavity as claimed. They may have put this in their work notes. This may be what they billed me and my health fund, but that is definitely not what happened. The dentist has made several replies to my review and then later removed them. This review is an honest experience 13 years ago. I am always fair and give a review of the service I receive. Unfortunately, my experience was really bad. My two kids were taken 2 and 3. They had their teeth checked, but the dentist didn't clean the teeth. She said they were too young. 6 months later, I took them to my new dentist, who did do a clean on their teeth. All 4 of the family have been going to the same new dentist since this time (when you find a quality service provider, you value them and stay). Sorry it took me 13 years to give this establishment my feedback. Positive things This is a nice modern, good-looking practice. It was really easy to get a booking and I went when the practice first opened. This is why I booked with the dentist at the time

Fantastic experience: Genuinely an absolutely pleasant experience. I’ve been multiple times now and drive from the north side of the bridge to come here because I always have a good experience. Andrew the dentist is quick, clear, gentle and kind. He explains what he’s doing and is just really good at his job. I just had my bottom wisdom tooth out and genuinely felt no pain at all and it took about 2 minutes. It also didn’t cost anywhere near as much as I thought it would- about $220 after my BUPA health insurance. The receptionists are also kind and clear. If you need a good dentist, no matter where you are in Sydney this is worth the visit. Checking out the beach before or after is perfect too with the location.

Fantastic experience: I’ve never felt more comfortable with my own dental attention as well as my children’s dental care, since moving to Bright Smile Dental in Coogee more than five years ago. I love the prompt communication, flexibility in appointment management, expert care from basic dental hygiene through to management of complex orthodontic advice. Dr Pyke has managed me through emergency wisdom tooth and root canal care and has provided a carefully considered approach for my three teenage children who are requiring specialist intervention. Negative experience: A little back story, on the 23rd of January I came to Bright Smiles Coogee to have the wire on the back of my teeth (from having had braces) re-glued as it had come loose, and a minor dent on my front tooth filled in, at my previous dentist this came in total to under $300 so I was quite surprised when this procedure came to $575 for the 10 minutes it took, however, I paid no questions asked. Come March 4th and to my surprise the wire on the back of my teeth came loose again, quite upset I phoned Bright Smiles and asked whether this could be fixed as it had only been done recently and was told they could squeeze me in that day and that it would not cost. I attended the dentist later that afternoon and after having the wire fixed (again) was told I would have to pay an additional $185, I questioned this as I felt it unjust to charge me when the job should have been done properly during my first visit. This is where the situation took a turn for the worst, the dentist Dr Statila Pike came out and explained she had decided to add adhesive to hold the wire down on another tooth, she had not asked me or told me she would be doing this and after clarifying that with her and contesting the payment as I had only asked for the adhesive to be fixed on the one tooth where it had come loose she began blatantly denying that it was her who fixed the adhesive to begin with, stating that it had been done at a different dentist and she could tell because it looked “old and discoloured”, she continued to deny that it was her who had performed the procedure, eventually stating that “even if I had done it, that was months ago in January” (under one and a half months ago). She dropped the price acting as if she was doing me a favour (even though I was told it would be free) and I paid and left feeling extremely shaken by the experience and that I had been taken advantage of. Upon returning home, I found the original invoice which clearly states that she had applied adhesive on teeth 11 and 21 (the “old and discoloured work she had flat out denied doing herself). This invoice is something that she would have clearly been able to see on her computer as she continued to deny having done the work. I would not under any circumstances recommend going to see this dentist. Response- I was most certainly told it would be free or I would not have attended the clinic, as a student I have a limited amount I can spend each week and am very cautious of this. I also never said I was having a bad day as up until this point I was not, and didn’t refuse to use my private health care or refuse to pay? (Contested the payment definitely but at no point threatened not to pay all together). I have the wire on four teeth yes, and originally there was glue on the front two, I asked for tooth 21 to be fixed when I came in on the 5th which you did do on the 23/1 as stated in my original invoice as it is not normal for dental work like this to last under two months, most people have no issue with the wire on the back of their teeth for upwards of 15 years! You tried to charge me for the adhesive on the extra tooth (tooth 22) that you added WITHOUT asking, so to say you added it as a kindness free of charge in your response is yet another lie. I paid upon leaving and was not told there would be any outstanding balance so if there is that is at fault of the receptionist. I have spoken to other members of the community and this does not seem to be an isolated event, I will be taking this matter further to the health care complaints commission.
