Fantastic experience: I Didn’t Cry—But I Did Almost Nap From the moment I walked into Diamond Creek Dental Clinic, I was welcomed like an old friend—even though this was my first visit. The front desk staff greeted me by name, as if they'd been expecting me like a VIP guest on a red carpet. I half-expected confetti and a slow clap. Signing in on their sleek little tablet was so efficient I barely had time to sit down and catch the rules of Channel 7’s latest low-budget game show. The waiting area? Spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully equipped with a kids’ play space—which I heroically resisted entering myself. Then came the main event. I was collected by a lovely nurse and introduced to Dr. Raymond Khong, who I must say is a unicorn of a dentist. Warm, funny, and the rare type who knows that small talk is best before or after the dental work—not while your mouth is a crime scene of gauze and pointy instruments. I came in with a vague ache in an upper molar. Ray found the issue quickly, removed an old filling, cleaned things up, and gave me a fresh one—all while managing my pain so well I could’ve sworn I was on a luxury spa day. I’m not exaggerating when I say I nearly fell asleep to the dulcet tones of the Titanic soundtrack that played in the background. Fantastic experience: I've had a few bad experiences with dentists in the past—was even told I needed a root canal—until I found Dr. Raymond Khong at Diamond Creek. He and his team are so professional, genuine, and honest. After seeing him, it turned out all I needed was a good clean—and that was it! Thank you so much for your kind words. For over twenty five years we have prided ourselves on high ethics and high quality work. Having taught ethics amongst other topics at the University of Melbourne Dental School, Dr Khong has always made a point to his students and young dentists that he mentors that dentistry is primarily about healthcare, not sales.
Negative experience: The dentist I was given recommended that I do a root canal, without even looking at the tooth. 3 other dentists said that this was just because he was trying to squeeze money out of it, and that a root canal was not a good option at the time. Furthermore, he cut too deep into what was left of my real tooth in order to make room for his procedure, which has weakened my tooth even more. This has made it harder for other dentists to operate, and has meant that my tooth's future is less optimistic. He did not seem to have my tooth's best interests at heart.
Thank you for the review, although we feel that it warrants some clarification of facts versus fiction.
In many situations in any industry, often a choice comes down to repair or replace. In this particular case, repair of the tooth would have been technically difficult, but perfectly possible. Replacement would have been technically easier.
The irony is that replacement would have been more expensive to the patient (provided that genuine parts are used), and more money to the dentist!
As a past teacher of ethics at the University of Melbourne Dental School, I have always taught ethics over dollars.
There is often no right or wrong in these situations - just a matter of which may be more ethical. Preservation of natural human tissue (in this case natural tooth) is always the more ethical choice, where appropriate.
So in fact when we were accused of “squeezing more money” - the OPPOSITE is actually true. Repairing would have been much cheaper but technically more difficult. Some dentists would choose to replace because it is technically simpler.
Nevertheless i would have been nice to have been given the opportunity to go through this with the reviewer, but when he initially attended, it was under an emergency situation (we squeezed him in between patients who already had appointments) so time was short and the matter urgent. A temporary tooth was reconstructed in a very quick time (something that only an experienced dentist could do), which was the primary concern of that visit, since it was a front tooth which had broken off, and the patient did not want to leave with a front gap. This was most understandable.
The reviewer never came for the follow up visit, which meant that there was no opportunity to fully go through the options. Sadly it seems now that he was given inaccurate information, apparently by other dentists. We would never presume or accuse another dentist of his or her motives or criticise them, as this would not only be unethical, but defamatory.
We are pleased that the reviewer has now found a solution to the problem, but we flatly reject the accusation that we were in any way, shape or form, “squeezing money”. We wish him all the best in his future dental health care.
Fantastic experience: They were amazing. It has only been 17 years since I had been to the dentist. Had a tooth ache that had been giving me a fair bit of pain for about 5 weeks. Explained everything every step of the way. Now a couple of days later after it's all settled down pain free. Highly recommend. Nice fresh clean rooms, relaxed atmosphere.

Since I’ve found the Diamond Creek Dental Clinic that’s changed, Dr Raymond Khong takes the time to explain to me what’s happening and what he is doing.
