The Dental Surgery in Belconnen

Fantastic experience: Had an infected nerve in my molar. Soooo painful. The first dentist ( at a different practice) squeezed me in to identify that I had the infection, and prescribed antibiotics. The wanted $6000 to fix 2 teeth, and I was scheduled to be fixed 8 days later. In soooo much pain. My husband asked me to get a 2nd opinion. I saw Dr Kim. He did a temporary fix, stopped the horrendous pain and said only one tooth was an emergency so I have to pay less than half of what was originally quoted AND Im not in constant pain for the next 8 days. The receptionist was so kind and even phoned the next morning to see how I was. Very impressed.

Negative experience: I used to go here, it was fine for a while. But I stopped going one day after receiving a horrible treatment from Dr Kim. During the procedure he was very rude to both me and the female dental assistant. I was in pain and in tears (from my jaw issue) and he became impatient and began comparing me to a child. When the procedure finished, I was too much in shock to report it and just went home. It actually put me off from going to (any) dentist for a while. This happened over a year ago, but I recently got a phone call from the receptionist about coming back, so it reminded me of this experience. I've found another dentist somewhere else with much better bedside manner (more empathetic & patient) so I will not be coming back here.

Fantastic experience: Dr Allen and the dental assistant are both gentle and so patient. It really helps to calm me down since I am usually aftaid of having dental works. Dr Allen is the best dentist I ever met.

Dr Milena is one of the most impressive dentists who has ever treated me (in some 60 years of dental work) and the results are most pleasing.

Negative experience: During the last two years Dr Milena damaged three of my teeth. Prior to this, the check-up did not reveal any problems with my teeth and I was not experiencing any issues, however, Dr Milena proposed the following procedures; the root canal treatment for one tooth and replacement of amalgam fillings in two of my teeth for aesthetic reasons. Before I agreed for the proposed treatments, I asked Dr Milena about the risk associated with the treatments. She ensured me that she has 20 years of experience and that there is no risk. After Dr Milena’s treatment one tooth had to be extracted to stop infection after the root canal procedure; second tooth, which had the filling replaced, is causing severe pain and the x-rays show cracks; third tooth, which had the filling replaced, is causing severe pain. Additionally, I would like to describe Dr Milena’s working habits. During the first appointment of the root canal procedure, Dr Milena stopped the procedure several times and burst into tears, leaving the dentist room. From behind the door I heard how somebody advised Dr Milena to go home. Dr Milena did not go home and she finished the treatment of the tooth which later on had to be extracted. The appointment to replace amalgam fillings started 45 minutes late. I was on my way to reschedule the appointment when Dr Milena approached me in the waiting room. Dr Milena was looking stressed and informed me that she is with a difficult patient; however, she will be ready for the appointment shortly, the appointment then proceeded 10 minutes after. During the appointment Dr Milena was completely engaged in a private conversation with the dental assistant, ignoring my warning about the anaesthetic procedure as she was rushing to complete the treatment. During this appointment she drilled too fast and too deep causing damage to both of my teeth. When I returned to Dr Milena complaining about severe pain, I was misled as to the state of my teeth after Dr Milena’s treatment. The truth about the state of my teeth, after they had been treated by Dr Milena, was revealed to me by another dentist.

Negative experience: Had a bitter experience going for a check up last week. The attitude of the dentist and the assistant was shockingly terrible. I wouldn’t have mind paying the expensive fee if the service was great. Took my treatment elsewhere and I am so glad I did.

Fantastic experience: I was fortunate to receive great care given by Calum Beaton at this practice in previous years. As he approached retirement Milena took over and continued the great care. Today I received the same from Renee, the dental hygienist.

Negative experience: Dr Melina and dental hygienist Renee are great, very professional and skilled. I would recommend my friends to do the dental service there but the manager is terrible, she is the reason I left that job.

Fantastic experience: Great dentist located in Westfield Belconnen. The prices were very reasonable, and all the staff were very friendly. Dr Kim was very professional and took the time to explain the x-rays and photos of my teeth and provided great advice to look after my teeth and gums. Have tried a few dentists in Canberra over the years and this is by far the best one I've been to.

Negative experience: I used to like Milena’s attitude when she was at Hawker, it has become less expansive since she has started her own business. My root canal is not complete, half done and causing me pain I paid to go away. She slung my partner into the gutter when she was panicked about Covid…she came first, him second…it was appalling. I’m sorry, we really liked you. X

Fantastic experience: My sister had introduced me to this belconnen dental surgery 20 years ago and I have never been anywhere else. I was sadden when Dr Betton had left, he was a bit gruff around the edges, he tells you how it is. The reception and all the dental staff are really lovely people. I go in with a smile and I leave smiling. The only thing I can say is the toothpaste they giving away Colgate sensitive pro relief repair and prevent. I have bought this a couple months ago and I stopped using it after 4 times. This product had left red blisters around the top gums where my teeth is. I was in so much pain from it. I had a really bad reaction to this toothpaste. I should have sent Colgate a complaint over this product. Once I stopped and went back to my Colgate sensitive multi protection ,my gums started to heal. I just hope no one else gets the same bad reaction like I did. I am only saying this since you do have it as a free sample at dental surgery. I wasn't sure it was the same one until I came home otherwise I would have mentioned it to the receptionist

Positive experience: Unfortunately I had a dentist who didn’t ask anything about me or my oral hygiene for a first visit so it felt very impersonal. Would much prefer a different dentist or practice.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been attending this surgery for approximately 16 years, the staff are wonderful, great with kids, services are always reasonably priced, cleanliness is evident and the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. Highly recommended to anyone that’s perhaps not that fond of going to the dentist, that was me before I started attending this practice.

Negative experience: If you value your teeth DO NOT GO HERE! My experience here has not been good. Have been to both Dr Kim and Milena and both seem inexperienced and unqualified. A crown that I’ve had made did not fit right. My bite is just not right so much so my front teeth are now moving out and my face shape has changed. I went to Milena and she said my bite needed ‘recalibrating’. She then proceeded to shave down all my teeth without asking me or telling me what this would mean. Now I cannot bite or eat properly. In the process she has also split the new $1700 crown that now has a hair line fracture in it. God knows what this will mean when it breaks! But I am not going back there. I am back to my old dentist in Sydney who is trying to fix these issues!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! They will not listen to your complaints or explain what they are doing. Disaster. They seem to be either trained overseas or very green.

Negative experience: There is no point of asking questions to receptionist as she wont care to tell you if your will be partially billed. Ruined my experience when I didn't expect it all!

Negative experience: After the dentist transfer me to specialist. The specialist said there’s nothing wrong with tooth’s roots. I need the normal treatment. It seems they give me the wrong diagnosis.
