Fantastic experience: I have a genuine fear of dentists, and it usually takes me a long time to even get myself into a dental chair (even though I LOVE the clean teeth feeling). I visited Luke Dunn Dental in Cairns and honestly couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. The dentist explained everything clearly and calmly, helping me understand the difference between what I thought was happening and what was actually going on. He has a very calm, reassuring manner, which made a huge difference to my anxiety. What I really appreciated was how practical and respectful he was. He cut through my excuses professionally (without judgment) and focused on what actually mattered. He talked me through affordable ways to improve my dental health, including everyday items he doesn’t sell, and even suggested waiting for sales rather than spending unnecessarily. He was very clear about what is essential versus what is simply nice to have. If you’re in Cairns and have dental anxiety, tend to put off appointments, or are worried about cost, I would absolutely recommend Luke Dunn Dental. I felt listened to, educated, and respected.

Negative experience: The first time I visited was because one of my teeth was chipped. Dr Luke treated me, and the experience was excellent, so I returned for a check-up and cleaning. On my second visit, I was seen by a different dentist, and unfortunately the treatment felt very rough and uncomfortable. I contacted reception to ask whether I could change back to Dr Luke, but I was told that choosing a specific dentist isn’t possible. I was also disappointed with the way the receptionist responded. Her tone felt dismissive and uninterested, as if it didn’t matter whether I booked again or not. It’s sad to have had such a great experience with one dentist and then not be able to see them again.

Fantastic experience: The best dentist I've been to, being perfectly honest. Dr Gimmy was a great balance of friendly and professional, the whole experience felt calm and casual. The rest of the staff were awesome too, easy to book and get a prompt appointment. Will absolutely recommend to others.

Fantastic experience: Hello, I don’t usually write reviews, but this kind of experience truly deserves it. I’m French and came in for what I thought was a dental emergency. I was lucky enough to be treated by Dr. Gimme Patabandige, who, in my opinion, perfectly represents modern medicine and the new generation of doctors. Beyond clearly feeling his passion for his work, what impressed me most was his ability to make you feel comfortable, to listen carefully, and to give genuine, thoughtful advice, as well as his attention to the patient’s comfort during the treatment. There was absolutely no intention to overcharge or make unnecessary profit (he clearly explained the prices and what was or wasn’t covered by insurance and even make a discount knowing I wasnt covert), but rather a real desire to meet the patient’s needs while offering his expertise and guidance. If I lived here, he would definitely be my regular dentist, and I’m extremely perfectionist! I 100% recommend him. A huge thank you again, Dr. G. Patabandige!

Negative experience: Avoid these people, because you loose your teeth. I have crowns showing on the photo one is 30 years old and the other 10years old, no problem. See the middle one missing which was done with the dentist at this clinic. Lasted 2 years and broke off. No excuse, i had few crowns done overseas in the past and never had any broken off. All my crowns in the past were done with "print and fit" technology(a full crown fitted over a tooth and into a gums). This clinic uses digital printing technology and the crown is just a "cup" on top of the tooth. Would avoid any dentist with this technology regarding the price they offer.

Fantastic experience: I had Dr Bianca and she was fantastic. She comes across as very kind and non judgmental (we all know that fear of the dentist judgement). I also had a mouthguard fitted by her. It needed a slight adjustment so I went in again and it only took a few minutes and was no hassle to fix. Would recommend:)

Negative experience: I had a number of disappointing experiences at this dental practice. There was a clear lack of interest in upholding Australian standards around “partnering with consumers,” which left me feeling disempowered and dismissed. Communication throughout my appointments was poor, both in clarity and consistency, and my concerns were not properly acknowledged or addressed. As someone with ADHD and neurodivergent needs, I found there was little to no understanding or accommodation shown. My preferences and choices in my own care were not respected, and at times I felt rushed and unheard. The dentist proceeded with procedures and x-rays without obtaining full, informed consent or explaining all available treatment options, making it difficult to make a confident decision. I also felt that there was a greater focus on profit than on patient care. There was an unwillingness to allow extra time to ensure quality work, which unfortunately reflected in the outcome - a filling that broke within just five weeks. Overall, the experience left me frustrated and dissatisfied.

Fantastic experience: Could not recommend highly enough. Luke is an exceptional dentist for normal teeth things and for implants. Very professional, gentle and his expertise surpasses any other dentist I have been to.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely reccomend these guys! Booked me in last minute on a Saturday. Dr Bianca was so lovely. Had to have an extraction, she was so efficient and didn't feel a thing! Made sure I knew everything needed for my aftercare. A perfect trip to the dentist does exist, here!

Negative experience: The one star is for the staff of this practice, who were all caring, respectful and informative throughout my two recent visits for a broken tooth. The Dentist was a whole different story! I had two appointments with the hygiene therapist before even meeting Luke Dunn, who was to extract my abscessed, broken tooth. I tried to give him some history of previous problematic extractions I'd had elsewhere, but instead of asking for further information, or explaining how he would approach the task, he made a flippant remark about my previous dentist and walked out of the room. If I hadn't already had my jaw anaesthetised (by the hygiene therapist, not the dentist) I would have left then & there. Instead, feeling trapped in the situation, I broke down and cried in the treatment room, as I felt that I had no choice but to be treated by someone I did not feel I could trust. After being reassured by his staff that he was a very skilled practitioner, I decided to go to the next room and have him extract the tooth. When I got there, I expressed my misgivings regarding him not listening to me. He then raised his voice and told me in no uncertain terms that he wasn't going to listen to me, that he was the experienced professional, and that it was crazy (his word, not mine) of me to expect him to listen to me. This performance was quite extensive. When I got a word in, I said I wasn't sure if I wanted to proceed, to which he stated quite plainly (and loudly) "I don't care. I'm busy!" At that point, I picked up my bag and went to reception, after telling him that he had just told me all I needed to know about him. I went to pay for the check and clean and anaesthetic that had already been provided, and he followed me out to reception and told his staff member that it was free-of-charge (which meant nothing to me. I wasn't looking for anything for free - just a tooth extraction and a little respect!). I said "thank you" and left. A few minutes later I returned, as I had reasoned that in my very distressed state it would be unwise of me to drive, potentially putting myself and others at risk. I went back to reception and told the hygiene therapist that I had decided I wasn't leaving with a broken tooth and a numb mouth. From then on, the dentist behaved in a much improved manner, competently extracted my tooth, gave me instructions on aftercare etc. I paid the bill, and left.

Fantastic experience: Alex was incredibly caring and attentive, making the entire process much more comfortable and reassuring. If you're looking for a dentist who truly prioritises patient care, I highly recommend Alex!

Fantastic experience: Alex at Luke Dunn Dental has carried out a large amount of dental work for me over the last few years and I couldn't be happier with the results. Alex is professional, extremely skilled, and is great to talk to. She made me feel heard throughout the various procedures and communicated details excellently. Fantastic experience: I have been coming to this dental practice for many years. Dean is the best dentist I've ever seen. He is kind, pays attention to detail and always makes sure you are comfortable when in the dental chair. Can't highly recommend him enough!

Fantastic experience: I am located remotely and had been suffering from a descending wisdom tooth for about a week over Christmas, when everywhere was shut. After being told I would have to wait until the 8th of January in my town to be seen with no guarantee of the problem being addressed, I called Luke Dunn Dental and spoke with Ashley. She organised a referral for an X-ray so the tooth could be assessed, and luckily enough I was told it could be removed. Two days later, I'm wisdom tooth free, with the procedure done in under half an hour and no pain involved. Considering my circumstances and location, I can not thank everyone at Luke Dunn for their care and expedience.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Dr. Luke Dunn for many years and cannot praise his professionalism, dedication and compassion highly enough. He has always explained things thoroughly and will never recommend anything that is not necessary. When a client of the Endeavour Foundation had a fall and damaged his two front teeth, I took him to Dr. Dunn, who not only treated him immediately as an emergency but also for free! I highly recommend this dental practice.

Negative experience: I wouldn’t recommend this place. Paid for a teeth cleaning and they didn’t do a good job. It wasn’t until I went somewhere else that I realised it was a poor job. Bedside manner wasn’t good either from the dentist.

Negative experience: The worst dentist I have been, he made two crowns and on both I had an infection at the root canal, the dentist who fixed his mistakes told me that the root canal was badly made and the crowns too big that damaged the closest teeth, a big disaster that cost me thousands $$

Fantastic experience: I'm a local Cairns resident, an old age pensioner, with no private health insurance. That means I have to pay for any private dentist service or treatment out of my own pocket...,,or savings. Here is my little story....in regards to Luke Dunn's practice...and other dentist. For years I've been seeing the completely free, ( one has to have a concession card), dental school clinic run by the James Cook University in Smithfield...no long waiting list....excellent treatment....and a comment from Luke Dunn later. So, Here I was, some 2 years ago. My front tooth was gone, a huge gap which did nothing for my confidence, and 2 teeth missing in my lower jaw. Having had a close look at my bank balance,, being a pensioner, I decided what the heck....lets go for 3 implants. That it wasn't going to be be cheap I knew. Now, that's where my little story, or experience, really starts! I googled several dental implant specialist in Cairns....and picked the one that was most prominent, had the best advertising....and promised everything!!!! During my initial phone call I made it perfectly clear....is the dentist happy to look at my teeth and give me a quote or a realistic estimation as far as the final cost of those 3 implants is concerned, free of charge!!!!!! Of course Sir....no worries...it will be a free consultation...No cost to you! Hahaha While I was waiting for my free quote, I was given an invoice...3 x rays, 30 min. consultation ... by an expert dentist....some $130...bucks all up..... .... So much for a free Quote or estimation! Did I pay that fee? No Way! I asked the poor receptionist to simply call the police, since I was refusing to pay a bill. A more senior person intervened....but not without telling me that this was a commercial praxis....and how dare could I expect anything for free. Needles to say....the Estimation was so much over the top....being of German origin....I could have flown twice to Europe and back. But, enough of that.....and back to Luke Dunn. Luke was recommended by a good friend of mine. He gave me a very good and fair quote for 3 implants....2 years ago. All went to plan...I'm still very happy with booth the fee and the work he did. And now, Why I am writing all this, with my 2 fingers...and being an old guy...67....??? Well. short story! 4 month ago one of my front teeth became loose, none of Luke's work..I had that crown for some 30 years. In short, Saw Luke 2 times......first time....his advise.... I'am rather reluctant to pull your tooth out with force.....might do some damage to your tooth roots....come back in 6 weeks or whenever you feel like it. And NO....there is no charge for this!!! Yesterday I had my tooth pulled out, re zemented and assured it might be good for a long time. Cost for a 30 minute treatment.....$120 !!!!! And, come back in 4 weeks for a Free check up! Very , very reasonable....a car mechanic would have charged more to tell you that your car battery is flat....lol. Well, What more is there to say or write? Perhaps one little chat I had with Luke, over the period it took to get my 3 implants done, might be worth mentioning. There was some minor work to be done on my teeth....and I told Luke that, being a old age pensioner , I was seeing the Dental School in Smithfield for free. Luke's response, Hey mate, go for it! Not only do you save yourself some money, but I was a student once myself. I learnt a lot of practical skills by treating concession holders like you as a student....so go for it. Well, that I guess sums Luke, the Dentist, up. A very skilled dentist, a astute business guy ( psst.... he drives a Maserati )....but also a great guy that has never forgotten his student years and how important experience for a new generation of dentists is. But.... most important to me.... Luke, and his team of very skilled dentist never let me down, never over charged me.....and were always there for me.....not ever a see you in 2 weeks or the like. Well, That's is the end of my halleluhja to Luke..... I'm a very happy patient !! Cheers

They explained each process in a way that was easy to understand, the clinic itself is really nice and modern, and all of it was covered without any hassle through my private health insurance. Negative experience: We have been wit LDD for years and always found they are professional and friendly.However in the past 12 months or so, one of the girl at the front, Alisha or something has always been rude to us. Maybe someone needs to retrain her in customer service. I have seen another feedback about her and my friends told me the same.

Fantastic experience: I chose Luke Dunn for my my porcelain veneers because they charge half what everyone else in Cairns charge. I was terrified of getting it done, but Dr Alex was simply amazing. I barely felt a thing, I was relaxed and happy, and even laughed a lot. I never thought I would actually enjoy myself at the dentist. I can't recommend Dr Alex highly enough, she's a total dream, especially if you're a nervous dentist-goer!

Negative experience: Advertisement for Luke Dunn dental very professional, however reception and dental assistants let the image down, except Mahaw (sorry unsure of spelling) .Was daunting arriving to find 5 woman in blue scrubs staring at me. While I waied for my appointment lots personal banter, as 2 staff left from behind counter lots of whispering, it was gossip as I heard " she this ...ow her". At one point one of the woman returned and someone said "you bit..."and laughed, however very unprofessional behaviour seemed they had no work to do.

Negative experience: I booked into see Luke for a consult. Rang up to change the appointment to a sooner date 05/11/2020 @930 which was confirmed by Rachel. I just come off my night shift and had to wait around town for a few hours. I arrived at Luke Dunn's clinic for my appointment which was not made. The receptionist Alicia was extremely rude to me. No perfectionism or apologies for the stuff up. I left uo set and extremely dissapoint. Obviously this review if not aimed at luke work. Im just dissapoint there was not perfectionism and resolution to there mistake. Would appreciate a reply back to this review. Cheers jordan

Negative experience: Terrible service. Luke drilled my mothers tooth too far and now she needs to have an implant. Two other dentist have confirmed this was the case. It’s only because I have mutual friends with the Dunn’s that there is not a lawsuit. I would NOT recommend.

Negative experience: Luke provided dental services to my son, it was quite extensive with the dentist pulling teeth. This resulted in the need for orthodontics later in life. Luke now refuses to see John and ignores the problem his so called professional opinion has caused. My elderly father also saw Luke up until recently when my father needed urgent treatment and all funds had been used on his health insurance, so my old man was left with needing assistance and Luke had milked his health insurance so there was nothing available.

Fantastic experience: I had a dental emergency while on holiday in Australia and I feel very fortunate to be treated by Dr. James Tran. He was thorough and kept me informed throughout the diagnosis and treatment. He literally turned agony into relief and within a few hours of his treatment, I felt like a new person. I would love to have him for my personal dentist! The staff at Luke Dunn Dental were outstanding and knowing my condition, they worked to get me the help I needed as quickly as possible.
