Negative experience: I had a very disappointing experience with Bupa dental and I don’t recommend their services. I have been a Bupa member for years and never missed a single payment of my plan(which is not cheap). I tried making an emergency appointment this afternoon and they simply said I was not welcomed in there anymore and could not make any more appointments with them. Their reason given was that I had canceled 5 appointments before and I was “wasting their doctors time”. However, I canceled only 2 appointments and they were way before the appointment date and I even explained when I canceled that I was away from Australia having visa issues and my wife needed to get threaded in Japan for health issues. Now I have an infected tooth, suffering with pain and I’ll have to find another provider and pay for extra costs because Bupa only covers certainly things with their own providers.

Fantastic experience: There is no better dental practice in Newcastle. Gareth in particular is an excellent dentist, I would not go anywhere else.
Negative experience: Over the past five or six years as a BUPA Dental patient, I’ve faced increasing issues with booking and service. If I couldn’t attend an appointment made six months in advance, I often had to wait months for a new one. During one visit, I was left waiting in the chair for 20 mins between seeing the hygienist and the dentist - I just left not wanting to wait any longer. I stuck with BUPA because the cleans were included in my cover, but the delays and disorganisation were a constant frustration. What finally made me leave was being told I needed a crown and a splint for a suspected crack—without an X-ray—and receiving a massive quote for work on the wrong tooth. I sought a second opinion elsewhere, where an X-ray confirmed the crack on the correct tooth but I didn’t need a crown at all. The new dentist is treating the issue with a more conservative approach. To make matters worse, when my new dentist requested records for me and my children, BUPA had no notes on record for my youngest son, despite him having been seen there multiple times. I know going to the dentist is rarely pleasant, but this experience was beyond frustrating. It felt careless and impersonal—and it was enough to make me move my entire family’s care elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: I am in my 81st year & today was my very first visit to Bupa Dental Mayfield and I was treated with dignity & courtesy. I have never had such a high level experience of professionalism as I did with Dr Garruth Andrew’s & the dentistry staff so much that I couldn’t stop thinking about my experience afterwards. 5 stars is not adequate for the experience I rate it beyond 10.
Fantastic experience: Had a great experience here. I came in for a check-up and clean, which was done really well. The dentist was excellent—friendly, thorough, and explained everything clearly. They also gave me a quote for some optional follow-up work, which I appreciated. The receptionist was absolutely lovely—super helpful and welcoming. Overall, a really positive visit. Would definitely recommend!
Negative experience: I had a very distressing experience at Bupa Dental Mayfield with Dr. Garruth Andrews. I visited in February with severe tooth pain radiating across my face. Dr. Andrews took an X-ray and diagnosed me with TMJ dysfunction, despite I said that the pain was clearly coming from my tooth. He referred me to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for an appointment on 11th February. I took Panadol and amoxicillin for several days, but nothing relieved the pain. I called the clinic again in February, urging that I needed to see a dentist urgently. The receptionist informed me, after checking with Dr. Andrews, that there was nothing more they could do and that I should still wait to see the specialist. A couple of weeks later, I developed a large and painful abscess. When I contacted Bupa Mayfield again in early April, I was told they were fully booked—even though it was clearly an emergency. Thankfully, I found emergency care at NIB Dental in Marketown, where Monica was able to clean the infection and likely prevented a more serious health risk. As I’m with Bupa insurance, I returned to Bupa Mayfield in May and saw Dr. Shruti Gulati, who was caring, professional, and performed a thorough deep gum cleaning. Later I received a root canal treatment in June in Melbourne. Only then did the abscess finally resolve—after nearly three months of ongoing pain and infection. However, I would like to sincerely thank and commend Dr. Shruti for her excellent and compassionate treatment. She is highly professional, attentive, and genuinely caring. If you do need to visit Bupa Mayfield, I would strongly recommend seeing Dr. Shruti.

Fantastic experience: Cannot recommend Bupa Mayfield enough! Everyone was so great, I was made feel super comfortable after being nervous about my appointment. I left very happy.
Negative experience: Rude customer service I called them to settle my account in full so I don't have to keep making monthly payments and the lady on the phone was very rude to me and refused for me to settle my Invisalign account. She demanded I come in-store even I told them previously informed them that I had moved 2 hours away. I don't understand what the issue was since they usually debit my account monthly either way and I have previously made payments over the phone

Fantastic experience: I will always go here. Dr Shruti Gulati is an exceptional dentist who cared about my anxiety and fear of pain and did everything in her power to mitigate the pain. And she did very well, Shruti was kind and politely educated me on correct oral hygiene practices and praised my efforts. The reception staff were polite and warm, despite saying they had a stressful day, they managed everyone’s appointments and queries promptly and with care. This practice deserves praise and 5 out of 5 stars. Well done to everyone who worked last Thursday 20 June.
Negative experience: I had a filling done in October by Dr S. Siddique, where two fillings were placed in the same tooth. However, my records incorrectly state that the fillings were in two different teeth Most importantly, since the procedure, I have experienced strong pain and sensitivity to hot and cold, making it difficult to chew on that tooth. This has never happened to me before, and I take good care of my teeth. It has now been over five months, and this is not a normal outcome. I am very disappointed with both the quality of care and the inaccuracy in my records

Fantastic experience: Good experience
Negative experience: Friendly staff and I've always had a good experience at this dental practice but be aware. Bupa Dental Mayfield are now sending patients a medical history questionnaire prior to appointments which I believe is a breach of privacy laws. Privacy Laws in Australia state that businesses can only collect 'personal information that is necessary for their work'. The questionnaire I've received today asks for a range of personal health information which has nothing to do with my dental health. I suspect this is an information gathering process where Bupa are attempting to source information which may be used to deny liability of future health claims. Shame on your Bupa! It might be a good idea to consult the Privacy Ombudsman about what information is relevant, and what information legally you can collect. I also note that there is no disclosure telling your patients how you secure the information you're collecting, and how you use it.
Fantastic experience: I have had amazing experience with Jessie Kiely. Not only does she take her time to explain every step and procedure, but she also involve me in the process, making me feel dignified as as a person and not just someone who needs their teeth cleaned. I felt empowered to also take my own oral hygiene more seriously because of her gentle and passionate approach. The person-centred approach by Jessie is really appreciated and commendable.
Fantastic experience: What an awesome dentist- Shruti Gulati who served my teeth. Couldn't feel pain because she kept on bringing good stories, you're a champion.
Negative experience: Very disappointed! My husband and I booked an appointment at 12 and 12:30 with a dentist, upon arrival the receptionist informed us that the dentist was unavailable at that time due to other patients' issues. We were told to take a walk first and wait for a call back. We waited for almost 40 minutes just to told us that our appointment need to be cancel and rebook as the dentist is going for his lunch break. I had to leave work early and my husband had woken up early from his night shift specifically for this appointment, only to have our time and effort wasted. We will not be returning to this dentist again.

Fantastic experience: From the 1st day, I had the best experience, considering this is a dental practice and we sometimes have to endure pain. The staff from reception to the dental Dr has been fantastic. The make the experience so much better and welcoming. Followed up with me for making appointment for deltal work the dental Dr suggested the 1st time. Really been great. I have to commend the team. Looking forward to my next visit.
Fantastic experience: I visited here today as a new patient. The girls upon reception were really lovely and I saw Jessie as my dentist. She was so beautiful and kind and was so gentle with my check up and clean. Definitely recommend Jessie! I ended back for my 7 year old for her first check ip here, also with Jessie! She is normally so anxious and sometimes won’t let anyone touch her. She was made feel really comfortable and at ease with Jessie and is super excited to return for her next check up! Thanks everyone. It was a really easy experience and I would definitely recommend!

Negative experience: I was lost in the booking system and it took 14 months to get an appointment for clean (with gas) and checkup (which the dentist did not believe). I was double charged for an Xray which I had to challenge to get corrected. Overall, not as good as past experiences.

Fantastic experience: Exceptionally compassionate staff I recently visited this clinic with a trio of very painful mouth issues. After my consult I fell apart in the reception area and couldn’t function due to the overwhelming pain and issues I was facing. The reception staff, dentist and others helped me get back to being ok, organised a referral booking and were generally so lovely. I was grateful for their compassion and will go back when I have other dental needs.
Positive experience: Just need to improve their booking practices and on the day cancellations. Frustrating to wait over 6 months for your appt only to get a text on the day advising it’s cancelled and to call back and book. Upon call back no availability for another 6+ months.

Fantastic experience: A really positive experience - quick and easy to book an appointment for the next day, the facilities are bright and welcoming, no attitude from the dentist, just positivity and clear explanation of what the process was and what future outcomes might be.
Fantastic experience: After a bit of a runaround elsewhere, my recent visit to Bupa Dental Mayfield for what I call major tooth repairs saw my issue handled and rectified absolutely professionally and all above expectations. The Dental Surgeon, Doctor Daniel G and his Assistant sat me down, explained the procedure and expected outcome and helped me relax and get through a fairly complex job. These guys were brilliant. I can't thank them enough. I even received a follow up phone call the next day, which shows how caring and proficient the staff are. I have NO hesitation whatsoever to highly recommend using this professional Dental Surgery.

Fantastic experience: I'm no stranger to dental care - braces twice, head gear, four dental surgeries, and invisiline. I wish I could have gotten that care at Bupa. So often dental providers barely bother to explain their treatments and it can feel like you're just the body attached to the problem. Bupa treats you as a person first and a patient second, and it is a well change to me. They did an excellent job fixing a cracked tooth and conducting a regular cleaning. Friendly staff and great work!

Negative experience: Terrible! Had an appointment at 11.10am waited until 11.50am to then be told it could be another 30-40 minute wait. I have other appointments to go to and children to pick up. This is not acceptable to make patients wait this long for an appointment. Will not be returning to this clinic.

Negative experience: Will never return to this dentist. They tried to tell me I wasn't covered for a specific treatment when in fact I was, and a simple call to the HF would have confirmed it, but instead they told me to go sort it, I had to get two buses to the Bupa office for them to say there shouldn't have been any issue, wasted my time. Quoted full price instead of PHI amount. Didn't give me the clean and scale that I asked for. Receptionist aren't very welcoming. Weird vibe in the waiting room.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely superb. Experienced professional dentists and professional friendly staff
Negative experience: Not good at all. Went in for a clean and to look at some suspected cavities. Was told that I had 2 cavities and 2 teeth that looked like they'd become cavities, which was true. When I left and went to the front counter they'd given me a treatment plan for 8 FILLINGS. Not 2, not 4, but 8! Because quote "the cavities are on the side of your teeth so we charge for the tooth next to it as well" EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE UNAFFECTED. They also tried to get me to have surgery to remove my wisdom teeth even though they were perfectly fine. So I went back to my family dentist 8 hours away and low and behold, they charge per tooth, not for the tooth next to it as well.
