Dental Health Services Victoria: Reviews
Negative experience: I tried to access their telehealth service twice over 2 days as an Australian seeking advice after damaging my tooth overseas. No answer either time - I spent 1.5hrs waiting in the queue each time before just giving up! No indication of your place in the queue or how long the expected wait is. If the service is not available, please take it off your website. This could have been a really helpful tool for me at this time, but I have wasted hours I could have spent elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Apart from the reception staff, everything else is good. Been well taken care of my child
Negative experience: Really wish 0 stars was an option. Called up and explained my severe pain to the person on the phone, he told me I need to come in first thing in the morning so that I wouldn't be waiting long before it gets busy. Got there around 8:30, the same time as a few older gentlemen who struck up a conversation and explained they were only in for mild discomfort, while my jaw felt like it was on fire even with heavy prescription painkillers (which i explained to them during triage). Every single person who had arrived before 11am, including the men id been chatting with in the room had been seen, xrayed, treated and gone home before I even got called almost 7 hours later, even with me politely asking if there was an ETA every hour or 2 after the first 4 had passed. Sat in the dentists chair, and within 5 minutes I was sent to get an xray. After getting my xray I was seated and told as soon as it comes through I would be seen asap. For almost 2 Hours, I sat there watching people walk out of the dentist, go get their xray, sit down, and be called back in before me, before I finally decided to say something. At this point the last painkiller I had brought with me was wearing off and I was extremely uncomfortable. Almost 9 hours of waiting after arriving, I was called in and told there is nothing they can do for me as the nerve in my jaw is tangled around the root of the problem tooth and I should go see a private dentist to have it removed, or sit on a waiting list for 6 months minimum to come back so a specialist can do it. What was the point in waiting? Why did I pay a fee for treatment when I was triaged? Why did every single person who came in after me (some of which I know were less severe) get served? I stayed polite, quiet and non argumentative while in severe pain and was completely ignored until I could see they were still sending new people in for check ups and decided to speak up. The one positive experience (although brief), was that the dentists and their assistants who eventually saw me were all lovely, warm, welcoming and apologetic even if they couldn't help.
Fantastic experience: I was expecting the worst with my sore tooth, add that anxiety to my already existing fear of the dentist I was not at all feeling great. After meeting the wonderful pair of Dr Anastasia & Antoinet I was completely put at ease, with them playing my favourite genre of music and cracking jokes that really helped me relax. I can say for sure that this was the best dentist experience of my life, not just for the way they relaxed me but also to not even cause me any sort of pain or discomfort. Thankyou team!
Negative experience: I've been trying to make appointment all week..I spent nearly 45 mins on hold 25 mins telling me I was first in cue and 3 mins wait time...that didn't happen..so maybe someone should fix those recordings and answer phones ..
Fantastic experience: Could not be happier with my new Dentures. Polite, friendly and professional. High standards that the industry should follow
Negative experience: Yesterday they hurt painful You best to avoid this place

Hello Linnie Lynn,
We're so glad to hear that you were comforted throughout your treatment at RDHM. We know it can be a daunting experience, so it's wonderful to hear that you had a positive experience.
Thank you for sharing!
Positive experience: I was in severe pain, caused by a rear tooth, coupled with facial swelling. Having endured the weekend, I queued in the "No Appointment", line at 08:15, and was entered into their process, by 08:45. The initial dentist quickly established, my wisdom tooth, caused my problem, and took me for an x-ray. 20 minutes later, I was back in the dentist area, looking at my x-ray, which showed a decaying tooth with very curved roots. He carefully explained what this curved root system meant, including the potential "risks", if the roots, snapped off. He asked the opinion of a dental surgeon, colleague, and she offered to take over. After being injected with a numbing series of injection. 20 minutes later, the tooth was in a bowl, and she gave me a briefing on care procedures, and a script for antibiotics. 10:15, I was strolling home, via a pharmacy, with antibiotics, In hand. By Wednesday afternoon, my face had returned to a more normal look. I , also, discovered, at check-in, that it's a 7 day operation, if only I'd known!!
Hi Ray,
Thanks for sharing your thoughtful and detailed review. We hope you're feeling much better now!
Fantastic experience: I needed urgent specialist Oral/Maxillofacial surgery during these trying Covid times and due to living 4 hours drive from Melbourne, the Video Telehealth Service was a lifeline for me. I was treated with dignity and care. The Telehealth Consultant even remembered my name from last time. I would highly recommend the Telehealth Service. Yasha was patient, kind, understanding and professional all at once.
Hi there,
Thanks so much for sharing your kind and thoughtful review. We are thrilled to know that our telehealth service was so useful for you.
We really appreciate the feedback.
Fantastic experience: DHS gives excellent attention to their patients. I can highly recommend the hospital...
Thanks Ian!
Fantastic experience: This team are amazing!!! I have never before seen such an efficient and patient dedicated team. Right from my first point of call through to triage to the clinician I was not made to wait lengthy times and was treated with courtesy respect and empathy and even given advise in relation to a non emergency self detected by the dentist upon video telehealth presentation. As I was not in pain at that point in time an appointment was made within 7 days and I was advised what I should do if the problem became unmanageable prior to my face to face appointment. Strongly recommend anyone with dental emergencies to look no further than this service. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hello Lisa,

Thank you
Fantastic experience: Excellent service and great care
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Raji!
Fantastic experience: I was in extreme pain and had called a couple of hospitals nearby, but without any prevail, I was left unattended and ashamed. I then called the dental Hospital in Melbourne and was redirected to a telehealth live chat. With that in mind, not only were i cared for, my needs were met and they were able to assist me straight away. I highly recommend anyone needing emergency treatment, please call them. They are so worth your time and money. Extremely satisfied.
Hello Karen,
Thank you for sharing your kind and thoughtful review. It's wonderful to hear that our staff were able to assist and ease your pain. Thanks for your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service in the current situation, quick, informed and so beneficial as a parent that services be available for our children so that all family needs are being supported. Thank you so much.
Hi Melissa,
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback - it's great to hear you and your family had a positive experience at RDHM.
Thank you
Fantastic experience: My video quality was sufficient for my dental situation to be assessed directly which helped. Clear and courteous consultation…great way to go! I was given an appointment then and there as well. Probably need a modern phone to have the best success and decent internet of course. Probably 5G will be useful for this sort of thing as well.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Andy, it's much appreciated. Glad it was a positive experience!
Fantastic experience: Wonderful team of caring professionals
Thanks for sharing, Sarah!
Positive experience: I don't know about you guys but this is pog
Thanks for your feedback, Angus
Fantastic experience: Excellent service and care
Thanks David, much appreciated!
Negative experience: If I could give then - 0 infinite times I would do. I went with broken Teeth around 4 pm. They didn't take me in because they close at 6 pm and the waiting time was 30 min... I didn't know I must plan accidents to go an emergency dentist. First time visiting and I will suggest going to a different place and no waste your time. It is a joke.
Hi Mary,
It's disappointing to hear that your experience at RDHM did not meet your expectations. We appreciate you sharing your feedback.
Negative experience: Even with excruciating wisdom tooth pain this place refused to see me. Triage said I was a category 3 and I was told they only see category 1 and sometimes category 2. This is emergency dental work and I was refused. This place is absolutely terrible. The government funding needs to be stripped and provided elsewhere. Instead I was offered a telehealth appointment because I suppose a Zoom meeting can fix wisdom tooth pain! More like the typical scam of leeching Medicare funding from the tax payer without providing any treatment to the patient.
Fantastic experience: Bad tooth ache! Telehealth solved my problem by organising a dentist visit almost immediately. Only have to suffer the taste of bonjella for 2 more days.
Thanks for sharing!
Positive experience: I got treated very well by doctor Sayied, he explained the situation very clearly and made me feel comfortable, though i had to wait for about an hour before i got in because they had lots of patients and i went in without having an appointment
Thanks for sharing Abbas, much appreciated!
Fantastic experience: Excellent care Found telehealth short wait time so don't delay
Thanks for your feedback, Steve!
Fantastic experience: I was a bit apprehensive at first when I was directed to use the link to the telehealth video consult but I was pleasantly surprised. I did not have to wait long and I felt that this was a great service speaking face to face even with my inept phone skills.
Hi Valerie,
That's great news! Thanks for sharing your positive experience and we're glad you found the telehealth service useful.
Negative experience: Worst dental care experience ever, they refuse clean my teeth even though I got pain and my gum infected due the size of tatar that collected for more than four years and even I hold reversal letter from my GP! Not recommended at all, wasting time and money such a shame this hospital located in Australia.
Hi Husam,
Sorry to hear you did not have a positive experience.
We would like to investigate this for you. If you would like to share this information in our feedback form, our team will look into this ASAP.
Using the feedback form helps the information to go directly to the relevant team in the hospital who can provide you with updated information. You can submit feedback here: https://www.dhsv.org.au/about-us/give-feedback
Positive experience: It helped get me in for an appointment as they could see what was wrong as sometimes explaining over the phone does no justice for a situation
Hi Shana,
Thanks for your feedback, it's much appreciated.
Negative experience: The tele health conferencing is pathetic! No support or care was provided and told it is a 3 year waiting list to see a dentist! Great health care services we have in Victoria- NOT!
Hi Tul,
Sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. You are welcome to share this feedback via our feedback form so the team in the hospital can investigate this further.

Fantastic experience: The staff are great and answered all my questions and put my mind at ease for my sons damaged tooth. Thanks you
Very glad to hear you had a positive experience! Thank you for sharing your feedback.
Fantastic experience: I called their head office for an appointment, they booked me in for treatment on the following day at Cranbourne, South-East. Next day I showed up at the counter, "no cash on premises due to COVID-19" embarrassingly, I only carried cash there but the receptionist calmly resolved this problem suggested that "I should come by another day and pay it then". Thank you for trusting me, receptionist. For my tooth extraction Dr Cynthia Vinen performed along with several other colleagues, throughout the procedure Cynthia and her team performed treatment with absolute care and kept me informed of every step in prior and constantly ensured if I was comfortable. Therefore, I highly recommend this centre for their professionalism and care. Once again, thank you for providing me a success treatment and all the best :).
Hi Usman,
Thank you for sharing your review. It's fantastic to hear that you had such a great experience. Our team always strives to provide the highest quality oral health treatment and it is wonderful to hear that you were pleased with your experience.
Thank you.
Fantastic experience: This dentist is cheap, especially if you on a concession card and they do a top notch job fixing your teeth. I recommend this dentist if you on a healthcare card or a pensioner
Negative experience: We don't have Medicare (not eligible) and therefor they only support stabilising care with a minimum spend of A$230.
Negative experience: If u don't want a tooth pulled when all it needs is a filling, don't come here. All they ever want to do is pull my teeth out. I'm looking for work so I can pay a real dentist!
Fantastic experience: Jia Lieong is such an awesome dentist. I love her
Fantastic experience: Recently had a complete set of wisdom teeth extracted here under local anesthetic, and the experience was as pleasant as possible, given the situation. I was attended to by the wonderful April, who embodies the qualities of gentleness and patience, and wields great strength inside her tiny powerful fists. The dentists and nurses were very eager to do whatever it took to put me at ease, even complying with almost all of my (somewhat strange I'll admit) requests. All up one of my more positive dental experiences. Thank you for making my visit a good one DHSV! Not nearly the nightmare I was preparing for.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service, the dentists are calm and collected. I had my wisdom teeth removed, and they did everything they could to make my experience as easy and calm as possible. Amazing work guys!
Fantastic experience: love it
Fantastic experience: they do an excellent job for me!
Negative experience: The fatty receptionist girl at counter was really rude and no expectation at all. I only want to ask question relate to wisdom teeth.
Positive experience: Please try to be understanding of a service that is under incredible pressure. I agree there are administrative difficulties (I had a student clinic plan of work to be undertaken over 24 months that after one year was simply left in hiatus for 18 months without explanation) that mean not all patients receive similar levels of care in similar circumstances. But please remember this is the only pubic emergency clinic open for extended hours that takes anyone after completing triage to assess your immediate needs compared to the needs presenting directly to the clinic - it is therefore unavoidable that from time to time it is going to have to turn people away. As well please be aware that as of 7 July 2015 there has in recent days been a water mains burst on premises that has affected the normal operation of services and is causing increasing delays. I have been advised this will be fixed quickly, hopefully by 8 or 9 July 2015. I think the service is doing the best it can under difficult circumstances. Good luck!
Negative experience: Rang May 2015 and after waiting for over two years was advised that we had an appointment 6/7 7 am and that we would get a letter confirming this. 1/7 and still not letter and no one will answer my voicemails. This is very distressing as the patient is a disabled young man with autism and development delay who need a GA for any dental work. His teeth are now abcessed and need work. Please be more responsive to voice mails/requested I am not not sure whether to turn up next Monday or not Distressed parent
Positive experience: Had to have a full upper clearance (i.e, all top teeth out) after an accident. Was told there would be no dramas as dentures have improved over time. Only, I had big dramas as, told be the dentists, the inside of my mouth is of a peculiar shape. Basically, my bottom teeth extent further out than my top teeth. The opposite to most people. They tried to align the denture so the symmetry would make it easier for me to eat, improve appearance and help the cramping I often got in my jaw. Sadly, it (the denture) didn't fit correctly and was sent for adjustments two/three times until it became 'wearable'. But only for a period of time of about 4-6 hours and needed adhesive as well. They kept following up on it, seeing me every six months and they weren't pleased with the result either. So, I was put down on the waiting list for implants. Now, these things cost big money and there's no way I could afford them through private practice. The wait was lengthy (four years) but that isn't the fault of the people that run the hospital. That's about how little the govt (either of them) assign funds to take care of people that have dentistry needs but cannot afford it. We and the U.S.A (I'd done research on it) have the highest costs of dental repair in the developed world. Not good enough from either govt to get the message out to young parents to take better care of their children's teeth, or like me, those that lost them in an accident. But they kept me informed of how the waiting list was going. Checked me twice yearly for any shrinkage in the upper jaw and recently, got word that my name was next in line and performed the surgery to great success. They've given me back a smile but most importantly, the ability to have a better diet. Biting into an apple again. Eating salads, toast, Even pork crackling. No the system isn't perfect and the waiting list is far to long. Yet the staff and the dentists I interacted with were all very nice, patient and did their best for me. They're under pressure and under staffed so take that in mind when you need their help for any emergency treatment and if not satisfied with the treatment you get. Write to your local member of Parliament and get them to bring up the subject that more funding is needed in an area that is more important than you realise (good teeth) until you lose them.
Negative experience: have work down there yuk .
Fantastic experience: My five year old daughter ripped two of her teeth out on the trampoline at 6.30pm last night. I rang and was put though to the emergency dept. Straight away the lady was very helpful and took all my details to save time when we arrived. We live an hour away - no emergency dentists on the Peninsula! My husband took her in and said they waited five minutes before being seen. He said everyone was very professional and very good with our daughter who hadn't been to the dentist before. Thank you!
Negative experience: Aaarrrggghhhh- DONT EVER GO HERE!!!!! Had a filling roughly replaced that fell out after a day- had waited 4 hrs. Went back and had it fixed after 3 days wait....went back for another a few days later as pain was bad and left after the "dentist" was so rough I called the manager who did a "patchup" job - waited another 2 hrs to get my xrays. Cant slam this palace enough!!!!! They should never have received a "royal" title and should be invesitegated by authoraties. While waiting, others came in with stories of bleeding for 6 months after treatment and constant pain. a crowded waiting room with a blairing TV. Just dont go there.
