Friendly vibes, great location (right by South Melbourne Market), and the kind of care that makes you want to floss twice a day. 11 out of 10 would recommend

Fantastic experience: Been coming here for 15 years. Best ever. Cant fault this dental practice in any way. Adrian is my Favorite but every dentist is amazing and reception staff super friendly and efficient

Negative experience: After my orthodontic treatment with Dr. Alex on 30 April, I discovered that a piece of wire had been left in my mouth, which caused a cut in my gums. This was not acknowledged at the time, and only after I followed up with two emails was it eventually addressed. I find this lack of care and accountability very concerning. Unfortunately, similar incidents have happened at least twice since then. On 26 August, when I pointed out what seemed to be, again, an attachment left in my mouth, Dr. Alex’s response was: “It’s edible.” I felt this was dismissive and unprofessional. Other concerning behaviors included: - Informing me the wrong time so i arrived 20 minutes early due to a “history” of being late, even though I was the one who waited outside before my appointments for more than half of the time. On the only occasion I was 20 minutes late due to a bus cancellation, I notified the clinic in advance via text, apologized, and still paid 300 dollars despite no treatment being provided that day. - Accidentally hitting my lips with an instrument, and when I raised it, instead of apologizing, Dr. Alex said: “No, I didn’t.” In my experience, these incidents reflect a pattern of unprofessional conduct and a lack of appropriate patient care. I cannot say whether his behavior was influenced by racism or sexism, but I have decided to stop my treatment here. I do feel strongly that parents should carefully consider before bringing children here — as something like a wire left in the mouth could cause serious harm. Besides that, I think the reception and other staff in the clinic are warm and nice.

Fantastic experience: Dr Adrian Dang is an inspiring dentist demonstrated by his skilful work, kind nature, and constant attention to the detail of his work, together with his consideration of his patient in the chair. It all makes for a 5 star review. Over a number of years I have had extensive work done on my teeth by Dr Dang. I have followed his advice and recommendations, carefully explained and with no pressure to decide, because I trusted him and without fail my choices, based on his advice, have been rewarded with amazing dental work. I would absolutely recommend his services to anybody with concerns about "going to the Dentist". Thank you Dr Dang!

Fantastic experience: Thank you so much to Dr. Alex and her assistant Tenzin. I am having braces put on and just had my teeth extraction today with Dr. Alex. Dr. Alex is very professional and put me at ease with every appointment. Tenzin is a very sweet girl, considering I was nervous during the extraction, she brought me a cute animal to hold, I was so touched! They even brought me snacks when they found out I hadn't eaten before the tooth extraction. They kept on paying attention to me and encouraging me during the extraction. I feel very lucky to have met such wonderful dentist and nurse.

Fantastic experience: I went in for a routine cleaning with Dr. Jordan Blum and had a great experience. He’s very knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything clearly, which made me feel comfortable and well cared for. The cleaning was completely pain-free, which I really appreciated. The staff was friendly, the clinic was clean and modern, and the whole visit was smooth from start to finish. Highly recommend Dr. Blum if you’re looking for a trustworthy and professional dentist!

Fantastic experience: There are very kind receptionists, gentle staff, and skilled doctors. The clinic always has a great atmosphere, and I was impressed by the wonderful people when I first visited. There are several excellent doctors, including one with a great sense of humor, specialists in implants and orthodontics, and a doctor who tries to speak Japanese with me since I am Japanese. They provide attentive care. This is a clinic I can confidently recommend to family and friends.

Negative experience: Really disappointed in this dental group. Was advised by Dr Cherie Young to refill and old filling due to it getting thinner and risking it fall out. After about a year I decided to do it as she continued to mention it at every appointment. Refilled my tooth and I started to have pain when ever I ate a tiny seed such as a strawberry seed. Prior to my tooth being refilled, I did not have any pain at all. Went back in and she decided to shave it down a bit. Still had the same issue, went back in and she realised she had not filled the tooth properly. Had a tiny crack at the end. Had to go back and redo the filling. I was charged again for her mistake, only this time, my tooth has worse pain. Made a complaint and requested to see a senior dentist who said the tooth has been filled properly but I now need a root canal even though he couldn’t see an infected root. So disappointment in the treatment I have received and not even an apology. My tooth has been damaged and they couldn’t even show me how they came to the conclusion that it even needed to be refilled. Now I need to save my money to get it fixed properly as they also used most of my benefits from my private health insurance and don’t have anything left. Dr Young also made my daughter have an xray when she didn’t need it and when we questioned it the receptionist replied with you don’t have to pay for it as your private health insurance covers it. To me it seems like they will do what ever they can to use your benefits out of your private health. Do not recommend at all!! Edited- Thanks for you reply and please dont try and cover up your negligenc but I was never informed of the risk involved to refill a tooth that was not experiencing any problems that it may inflame the root. Very negligent on your end!! Had Dr Cherie filled my tooth properly the first time, I would not be in this situation now. As for cancelling follow up appointments I returned to a senior dentist who advised I needed a root canal which I was not going to do as the root is not infected. Also, due to this experience you have now caused me to fear the dentis again! So thank you for the pain and truama you have caused!!

Negative experience: Here's the translation: "Three appointments costing over two thousand dollars, plus all the private Medicare payments. The first appointment was wonderful, but the next two were a disaster: a broken tooth, and they charged the full amount without completing the treatment or providing any explanation. I demanded an X-ray to see the results; they refused, and after much insistence, they finally did it, showing exactly the same as the first X-ray before the treatment, with increased pain and now a broken tooth. I do not recommend them at all."

Fantastic experience: I first went to SMDG while living in Melb for 2 years & have been so happy that's I've kept coming back for 9 years (& counting) after moving 2 hours away to Bendigo. My dentist, Avron has been there the whole time & has been fantastic, personable, friendly & welcoming. Before coming I could not imagine being so loyal to a dentist / practice but now I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. SMDG is far & away the best dentist I've ever been to!

Negative experience: My dentist here is amazing and have only ever had positive and painless experiences. However, recently I was unable to book with my regular dentist online so I booked with another dentist. I received a phone call to confirm my appointment and I then proceeded to ask if my original dentist had left the practice. The receptionist informed me that my dentist is still there but does not take online bookings. I then told the receptionist that I would rather change my booking to be with my regular dentist. We began to discuss availability. As I have moved to regional Victoria for three months it’s difficult for me to see my availability in Melbourne. I asked when the next available was and it was November during the week which didn’t work for me with work. I asked if she could give me some dates/appointments in late December that my dentist was available and I may be able to choose from them as it’s hard for me to get back to Melbourne. She then rudely said to me “just give me a date”. Feeling completely disregarded and rushed, I then said “don’t worry I will book in with my mum when I get the chance because we often see him together”. The receptionist then said “okay do you still want your appointment tomorrow?” I then said “no thank you I’ll reschedule”. Before I finished my sentence and right after I said “no” she hung up on me. Never before have I come across such a rude receptionist. Someone who is supposed to help their clients and work with them to choose a suitable time. Not rush them and be totally rude and condescending. Could not believe the disrespect I received. I hope they record their phone calls. I have never had an issue with any of the receptionists until now, all the others are extremely lovely.

Fantastic experience: What can I say, Dr Avron Lapidus has transformed my life. I have been hiding from dealing with my dental problems for far too long due to my fear, embarrassment and anxiety, however I could no longer hide if I wanted to be a proud and confident member of the community. Dr Lapidus was understanding, compassionate, frank and I immediately felt confident and comfortable when he made a plan to give me my smile back. He has certainly done that and much much more, I Thank him immensely. Of course he doesn't work alone and ALL the staff we're proficient, friendly and in my case what I needed most, extremely supportive. I couldn't recommend this dental practice enough. Negative experience: I visited the clinic for a check up and a clean. It was quick and basic. The clean wasn't very thorough with plaque left on my bottom front teeth. The place is tired and needs a good refresh.

Fantastic experience: Exelent Dental Clinic , surgeons are highly qualified , some have 20 and 30 years of experience on the dental field . Highly communication skills , honest hardworking specialists who only performers surgery if really needed. Recommend Dr Avron Lapiduds because that the specialist that attended my case , 30 years plus of experience , very calm , communicative, top skills. Highly recommend the clinic and the specialists if you combine the knowledge of Dr Avon , Dr Raymond and Dr Barry together it makes 90 years of experience, the chances having a bad experience is very low. Fantastic experience: I am very impressed with the service offered at the South Melbourne Dental Group and my experience with Dr Adrian Dang was exceptional. The environment is comfortable and Adrian is caring, patient and thorough in his work. Reception staff are friendly and accommodating. Fantastic experience: Well organised and very professional practice that was able to accommodate me at very short notice for a emergency dental work. I highly recommend this practice, and particularly Dr Alex Zelmanovich. He is very thorough and walks you through every step of the work he undertakes, constantly checking on how you're going through the procedure. The practice is easily accessible along several main roads, but very conveniently located across the road from a Route 1 tram stop and just two blocks from Routes 12 and 96 stops on Clarendon and at the South Melbourne Market respectively.

And if you’re pondering whether or not to go, book asap with Adrian (often booked out well in advanced because he’s so amazing). Ady is extremely gentle and very thorough. You will leave his chair feeling fresh, clean and NOT traumatised because he talks you through everything he is doing and nothing is a surprise. He also listens to your concerns and will try to be as helpful as possible. His room is also very fancy with a TV on the roof, so if you’re not in to focusing on what is happening to your mouth, you can easily tune out and tune in to Netflix. Not only is Ady lovely, his dental assistant is also just as amazing and gentle - they are a powerhouse team. In addition, when you enter the clinic and check in, you are always greeted with a smile and a very friendly hello from the reception team. I never feel rushed or like I’m intruding - it’s strange, but you feel like you’re a part of this big family and everyone is just so helpful and caring. Hands down, best dental clinic ever!

Negative experience: I visited smdg for a check up and clean this week because my usual dentist is booked out until November this year. Obviously had an X-ray as it was my first visit which bumped the price up. My teeth were cleaned but not thoroughly as I would have liked and expected. It was the quickest check up and clean ever probably because they didn’t polish nor floss them which i expected. I left there feeling as if I could have done a better job myself! I just didn’t get that feeling or satisfaction that the job had been done properly. This place is tired.

I am, for reasons not entirely obvious to me, terrified of the dentist, never used to be...but hey..... They were extraordinary - I went in, quite prepared to bolt....and came out with a tip-top filling from the brilliant Dr Dang. Thank you - both for being patient - and also for one of the most seamless dental experiences I have had...Obviously I'd like to say I wont be back - but if ever I had to - this is the place...

Fantastic experience: Dr Alex is so friendly and reassuring, I think most people gets a bit anxious but he’s very good at keeping the patient calm! He explains the procedure very well and he’s very skilful too. Julia that were helping out during the procedure is also very friendly! Sussana, who’s attending at the registration is very helpful. She explained to me in detail on how to do my insurance claims. Everybody is so friendly and I will highly recommend this dental group!

Positive experience: Good dental practice. Experienced dentists and friendly staff. Would recommend it. Started my orthodontic treatment with Dr Ray a year ago. Everything was taken care well. Appointments are a bit hard to get if you change it late, he's mostly busy all the time. There were times when emergency appointments were accommodated. Satisfied overall. Got the braces removed a few months ago. No issues so far.

Fantastic experience: New to the area. Had Dr Avron L and his nurse Emily. Excellent customer service from reception to the chair. I agree with another reviewer, I too normally leave the dentist with a sour taste due to the $$... However couldn't be happier with the conservative price for a check up that included two x-rays on the spot! Let alone the value of 30+ years of experience that was clearly evident. Dr Dang took before and after photos of the filling he placed so that he could show me what had been done in my mouth, which I found very informative. Highly recommend this practice.

Today I experienced exceptional custom service by not only the ladies at the front counter but by also the best dentist I have been seen by to date. Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Dr Adrian Dang at South Melbourne Dental Group who is very kind and does an excellent job in his beautiful and modern office. He is constantly improving his skills, for example learning how to do implants and crowns. I was impressed when Dr Dang digitally designed and made a crown for me in just one visit! He used a newly installed crown making machine at the clinic. Dr Dang also looks after the dental needs of my family and many friends who say that he is the best.

Negative experience: Had some fillings done there and 1 yr later They have fallen out or need replacing. One tooth was broken so bad when the filling came out the whole tooth had to be removed (was near the front so is visible) the other tooth now needs root canal and the third filing needs to be replaced. Im now looking at 10k to fix my mouth and needing false tooth where one was removed. They seemed so nice and friendly and well priced when i went there but ive had nothing but problems since.

Fantastic experience: After calling up around midday today; and being a new patient, the friendly team at South Melbourne Dental Group were able to slot me in for an X-ray regarding my wisdom teeth that afternoon. The clinic is beautiful and welcoming, and the staff were kind. Barry was my dentist for this visit, accompanied by his assistant, Emma. They were both friendly and performed their jobs well. Thanks to Barry, my concerns were diluted and he explained everything to me carefully, and has even put the effort to personally email me a copy of the X-ray. I thank Barry and Emma for their work this afternoon. I would highly recommend SMDG to any individual or family looking for a clinic.

Fantastic experience: I started going to this dental practice about 12 months ago to undertake an implant. Adrian Dang has been doing the implant work and other works on my teeth. He is such a genuine, knowledgeable and great dentist at his work, his positive and caring attitude, follow up after major works to see how his patient is doing and recovering. His assistant is also caring and great at her work. We always have a good laugh. All other staff on the front desk of the practice, are also awesome and really take pride in their work . It's always a great and fun experience when I've been there. Strongly recommend Adrian.

Fantastic experience: Have seen Avron for checks for my oldest boy for last 2 years. He is really wonderful with kids and makes them totally at ease. I have seen him also for my teeth and was impressed in particular as he suggested I didnt have a particular treatment due to low chance of success. He could have sold me on the procedure to make more money but this didnt seem to be an issue for him.

Fantastic experience: As a brit its fair to say i was very nervous about using an overseas dentist i had never met. Without a doubt this is the best dentists practice i have ever been too. The staff are all very warm and easy to talk too and my dentist was incredible: Dr Adrian Dang was gentle, explained everything before my treatment and during and was even able to fit in my treatment on the same day. I have never been happier with dental results. Very highly recommended.
