The Adelaide Dental Hospital (ADH) comprises six specialty dental services, general and emergency services, and provides infection control leadership. Under arrangements with the University of Adelaide, we provide up to 90 undergraduate student chairs in which students undertake clinical placements.

Negative experience: Pretty disappointed, called in for my wisdom tooth as it has been giving me extreme pain, difficulty sleeping and eating (Swallowing, opening mouth, chewing) ear pain, jaw clicking. All sorts of stuff. They got me in for emergency care, I was under the impression they were going to remove it. But no. Gave me a cheap toothbrush and slapped me on a 2 year wait-list then sent me on my way. Safe to say I am extremely disappointed and now I'm not sure what to do as I'm in unbearable pain and can't afford to get them taken out privately. Thankyou Australia and SA Dental for not caring a single bit when it comes to this stuff.....

Fantastic experience: Went in for an emergency removal of a badly damaged, and extremely painful wisdom tooth and I was fairly nervous as it was my first ever extraction. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and it didn't take long before I was seen. (Great view in that waiting area on floor 11) The student dentist did an amazing job, talked me through the process and consulted with their teacher often which I found very reassuring. Procedure was quick and 99% painless but needles don't count. Great experience overall!

Negative experience: ANOTHER trainee Dentist this am and I was very assertive with my history, including the last SA Dentist who could NOT speak English. She glued 3 of my front teeth together with dental cement - seriously, and missed a massive infection/abscess. Those 3 glued teeth have now fallen out. My local Dentist picked the massive infection/abscess, and issued 2 courses of antibiotics and painkillers. Horrendous The 3 glued past teeth my local Dentist cleaned the junk out they left behind, yesterday and removed the cement = causing me painful ulcers. They were going to remove ANOTHER tooth this am, ("thank you for letting me know prior"), and I said "NO". "I need to prepare by having food in the house so I can eat". Another appointment was made, (later in the month), so I can make soup & freeze = at least 3 days of food. I take a certain medication which complicates the extraction. One for osteoporosis. On top of this, they would NOT be following through with a partial denture, which flipped a switch with me. "WHAT SO I HAVE TO SURVIVE with % of no teeth ?" "Oh everyone has to go on the waiting list which is about 6mths" I'll be making another formal complaint to SA Dental Modbury to ensure I am given another voucher to have the partial dentures made by a private Dentist. Later this month, hopefully I'm finished with trainees who started my road of anxiety from 12 yrs on.

Fantastic experience: Don’t be scared or discouraged by all the 1 star reviews, this was the best dentist trip I’ve ever had! The 5th year student who looked after me was fantastic! She had a lot of skill, and was very knowledgeable, catering to my mountain of questions. Went in for a filling as my molar had cracked and where it had cracked fell out leaving a big hole, after the procedure my molar is now back to normal and looks brand new. She did a proper job! I’m also terrified of needles and she did a great job at keeping me calm and my nerves at bay, and the best part, I couldn’t even feel the needle at all! I’ve had horrible experiences from supposed 5 star rated private dentists but Adelaide Dental Hospital was by far the best dentist experience I’ve ever had :)

Negative experience: Thought I was going for a clean which is now 5 months overdue as I had to reschedule due to covid. Not only did I not get the clean, I was not informed of the cost prior to them just doing a chart! I was also not informed that it would be so painful as no anesthesia was offered! I'm outraged at their total lack of not only communication, but informed consent, both financial & in the treatment so I called a local Dentist only to discover I was gouged by the Dental Hospital! It's disgusting that a Public Health Service, which I was obviously under the mistaken belief was for those on the lower end of the socio economic scale, can get away with charging someone on a Disability Pension $52.50 to do something that would've cost only $37.00 at the local Dentist! Then to add insult to injury, they won't even give me a copy of said chart to give to the 'non price gouging' Dentist, I have to fill in a FOI request for it! I was also told that I can't just keep going there for care as I was taking up resources that could go to the next person on the waiting list & I suspect that's why I was charged way over & above what it has cost me previously. Where's all the $$$ for Public Services from the resources that are taken from the land? In the pockets of a few billionaires who don't even want to benefit their own children (yes, I'm looking at you Gina). Vote Greens ppl, they want to make the mining companies & billionaires pay what they should so they can put Dental & Mental Health into Medicare!

Negative experience: I was returning a call after class today because I thought it was urgent and when I picked up, the receptionist was so aggressive and rude, I was completely taken aback. I am very nice and soft spoken so she had absolutely no reason to berate me the way she did. I was at university but I stepped outside so I could take the call, but I still wasn’t able to hear her that well and follow her instructions, which made her extremely mad that she SNAPPED at me for spelling out my last name, even though I was trying to be helpful. she quickly snapped and said “NO NEED TO SPELL IT” in an extremely angry tone. you don’t treat patients like this and you certainly don’t take out your anger on them judt because you think they’re easy targets. mindfulness goes a long way. this is so disappointing.

Negative experience: They took 9 teeth but DID NOT TAKE THE TOOTH THAT HURT. THEY LEFT ME WITH LIFELONG NERVE PAIN. they did not provide pain relief, they did not provide aftercare. I had to go to the hospital afterwards because they damaged multiple nerves IN MY MOUTH. I will never eat, drink, talk or breathe without pain again. They make you sign a waiver so you can't sue them if they make mistakes.

Negative experience: Got 2 teeth removed in June for orthodontic treatment and had my sinuses perforated on both sides they were removed 6 months after sinus surgery. Had a sinus infection for three weeks due to this. Moved interstate during my braces treatment and was met with refusal to transfer my records. Finally getting sorted 6 weeks and multiple complaints later…

Positive experience: I got someone's attention @ Adelaide Dental Clinic with my last review and I am thankful for that. She was able to bring my appt 10 days earlier And with one of their more senior Dentists. (apparently) It gets a bit scary when the denture in wax comes back and all you can see is bottom teeth when fitted. There was no middle line between the top teeth and bottom teeth.. because all you could see was bottom teeth.. I thought it was so obvious.. (to anyone)< but when the Dentist couldn't see what was wrong until I put my old dentures back in & showed him.. to prove it. I told him they need to be bought down 5mm. He wouldn't believe me & I think they were shortened a couple of mm. I was most unhappy with the lack of response to my input because I am NOT happy with the dentures either. As a matter of fact I have bought all the material I need to make my own dentures with lessons from YouTube. I am so frustrated that I can NOT get a decent set of dentures made. I put $75 down, before the dentist started, but after the 1st visit I wouldn't pay another dollar until I seen what I was getting and glad I didn't because I will not pay for rubbish. Anyway.. Thank You to the person who responded to my 'review' and helped me to get thru the 'system'. I will update later. Ok this is 'later': Unfortunately the system failed me - well, to be exact - Another 'public dental' dentist failed me.. badly. He just wasn't interested.

Negative experience: removed my teeth quickly but then threw them out without asking me then proceed to do nothing to get them back. Then proceed to incinerate them without my consent and is now refuse to refund or compensate me avoid this place and go elsewhere. Ky Baum Update: had a call with the head of the dental hospital who refused to apologise and instead attempt to gaslight me into thinking is my fault they did that without my consent. Avoid this place not only will they violate your body by incinerating your teeth without your consent they will then proceed to gaslight you.

Fantastic experience: I had been having jaw surgery since 2014 in 2021 I was referred to Dr Andrew Cheng, the effort and care he provided was magnificent I have had 3 surgeries under him and after over 10 years of surgery in 2024 he completely fixed my jaw I no longer suffer any problems. I high recommend Dr Cheng.

Negative experience: Worst dentist I've ever seen. I just don't see why they have 10 students with one doctor on the scene perform on patients. I went to get a filling, a simple filling had to sit in the dental chair for 3 and half hours. It really sucked. The worse thing is, 2 days after am in pain. No wonder it was a concession payment. I would rather get a loan and see a proper dentist and pay what ever they ask me to pay.

Negative experience: Would not recommend. Was set there 2019 for biopsy all but one was ok last one hurt lots told them. Had to return some weeks later for results,they wanted to do more test told them still sore they did not seam to concerned made another time witch i cancelled as i did not wish to return to a place that inflicts pain on people. Went to max oral this year and they told me that they stuffed it they should fix they made appointment 10am 13/2/24. Arrived 9.45am was told 12th floor but not witch window 5 women sitting went to first and they told us to go to take a seat in an area. 10.15am another woman asked us if we had appointment the 2 women were sitting next to each other!!. 10.45 am i asked how much longer as wife in pain told just cleaning room.11.00 am wife an i had enough we left. all 3 visits patient not important ,Do not even know the person that i was to see communication is not there anywhere. Several hours later was called to make another appointment as the {doctor!} really wanted to see me i said he should have been on time and kept the one that was earlier. Now am going back on the 27/2/24 am not hopeful. If they make a time they should keep it and communicate to the patients if unable to busy talking to one another. not a very nice place to go is like a remand center or mental ward

Negative experience: Went for a broken tooth. Did X-rays, was told another tooth was more in need of treatment, which I was told was a root canal. I asked if the tooth I went there for would break further, the student told me it was merely aesthetic and better to do the root canal on the other tooth I asked how long that tooth she said was more in need would last post root canal. She told me, as long as I kept my appointments it would be fine until I got an appointment for a crown. I asked if it would be likely to break and was told no way. Day after, the original broken tooth I had the appointment for, snapped off at gum line. Week After, the root canal tooth broke in half and was told I didn’t have a root canal (when I called to complain). Had an appointment made to see a qualified dentist, who said he doesn’t know why the root canal was even done with the tooth the way it was. He even showed me the X-rays. I now have to have three teeth surgically removed and further prosthetic appointments. Absolute disgrace with little accountability

Fantastic experience: Incredible work! I had been struggling with wisdom tooth pain and headaches due to very bad cavities in it to the point that I was having trouble sleeping. So I went to Angle Parks dental clinic who referred me to Adelaide dental Hospital where I was seen on the next day. The friendliness and professionalism of the 4th year students was outstanding and they got the tooth out in one hour. It was a very complicated job and I was quoted $2900 for it to be done privately under general anaesthesia. I simply didn't have anywhere near that amount and went here. I just can't be grateful enough to the students who did the job, the supervisor and very friendly reception staff

Negative experience: Very disappointed that my friend had teeth extracted and wasn't under anistetic and given she was supposed to have it numbed, which didn't work properly. She left feeling nausea and dizzy and was gotten out of the chair really fast as she was 2 minutes into another appointment. She was bleeding from the mouth with swabs in her mouth. She come out of the hospital and scared a bunch of students and teachers as she was uneven on her feet. She has vouwed she won't go back as she has felt she was treated like a second class citizens. She needs dentures and is refusing to go back for more teeth to come out as the way she was treated. This has happened in the last couple of weeks.

Negative experience: Was rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital who rang to confirm urgent to be seen told to go straight to Adelaide dental they waiting, get there 2hr wait than told be here by 9am the next day today 09/08/2023 arrived at 8:45 approx 2 other's waiting it's now 11:20am and another 20 to 30 people arrive in and out, told we Rah patients and it's a if we fit you go in Rah order and walk in order, we'll more from Rah come and yes they went in before and yes we still waiting also STAFF NEED TO LEARN HOW TO WORK WITH PUBLIC RUDE AND BLUNT, and laugh about calls made saying we not paid to handle complaints grrrr

Negative experience: I have severe dental trauma after going there I haven’t seen a dentist since. ( general dentistry area ) The student wasn’t supervised. He kept going when I’m crying and telling him I’m in pain , and even told me at one visit that I CANT feel it when i again was telling him, and he just kept going. The “supervisor “ would never co e over till it was all finished, and the student must have said something to him, because the supervisor told me I should let them know I’m in pain WHEN it’s happening so they can fix it….. what?! I did! I was also given different information about the same question at EVERY appointment. I’m autistic and also suffer from a severely painful connective tissue disorder, as well as many other things. I’m definitely NOT a sook , especially with the amount of pain I suffer on a daily basis and still have to “ get on with it”, I’m literal so I speak I factually , and I also can’t self advocate. I have been loosing my teeth, another just painfully snapped off tonight… but I’m too scared to go to a dentist

Negative experience: Very disappointing. Referred to the hospital from Oramax and I would not recommend either. There was Very little consultation about the actual procedure and how bad things could be After the procedure. The Doctors told me healing would be 2 weeks and I would be provided with pain management after having over six centimetres of bone from my mouth. Please don’t use these people for serious surgery unless you absolutely have to. After my surgery I have been left with little post surgery care and seeking treatment elsewhere. After speaking to a different specialist about my situation their shock at what I have been through validates my suspicions. My condition is so much worse than before surgery and having done so is the biggest regret of my life.

Negative experience: Waited almost 2yrs to see them drove over an hour to and from the country to have them be 40mins late to my appointment then spend 5 minutes being told they won't help because it's not life threatening to remove the wisdom teeth that have been giving me hell for the past 3yrs. Everything they told me could have been over the phone and clearly just a cost me taking a day off work driving an hour each way! Disgusting to know it's a personal choice if you get teeth pulled or not! Forget this place if you need genuine help with pain from wisdom teeth they don't give a stuff. Zero stars for service if it was an option.

Fantastic experience: As Dental students the work is not necessarily world class BUT their efforts & patients care is, my dental work is not finished yet BUT I cannot speak highly enough of the treatment I am receiving & as a pensioner (disability) I am treated as a patient like anyone else ( but at minimal cost) which I could never afford at a private practice but with better care than I did receive at huge expense at one particular practice on the south coast !!!

Fantastic experience: Over the period of many years, I have had ongoing treatments performed at The Special Needs Unit, The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, & the Emergency Dept. Congratulations must go to all the wonderful & dedicated people who work at our ADH - including the Dental Surgeons, the Nurses, the Students, the Receptionists, & the General Staff. Negative experience: The consultancy is ok, but the surgical staff is just horrible. Very incompetent indian and Asian students, placed in the surgery department.They try to experiment with people health and make things worse and complicated to deal with.

Negative experience: Just now I tried to call with having my number showing and I kept getting declined 5/6 times. Put my phone number onto private and they picked up withing the first 2 rings. What's going on with this place they use to be very good when it comes to answering phones first time without needing to put phone number on private. I'm waiting for a call back to see if I'm on waiting list to get wisdom out and I'll apparently get a call back later. Let's see if that happens aye..

Negative experience: The dental staff are absolutely amazing, i couldn't fault them at all. However the receptionist on level 12 with the long red hair & glasses on the oral & maxillofacial surgery side needs to maybe take a course in how to provide better customer service. She has a very rude , abrupt & not happy being there attitude which automatically puts a damper on anyones day. Other than that the Adelaide dental hospital has that safe & secure atmosphere feeling about it.

Fantastic experience: Went back to try again with my wisdoms getting removed i had an amazing team this time the asistant was so sweet, kind, calm and understanding and the dentist who removed me top wisdoms did such a great job thankyou to to them both and everyone else in this dental hospital. if you're someone like me with anxiety and disabilites make sure you get someone that's possibly working in the special needs unit as an asistant as well she did good talking to me throughout the extraction and letting me hold her hand i'm so going back when its time to remove my bottom 2

Negative experience: The professionals like the dentist and hygienist that work here are great. The receptionist not so much. They are abrupt, rude, have no empathy, very unhelpful and treat you like scum because you are a public patient or ethnic looking still have not figured it out. If you hate people and your job so much why do you not leave? Specialist restorative clinics receptionists is the one I am taking about specifically. Time to go mate if you hate society and life so much!

Negative experience: Deeply disappointed and upset. Went there at the start of the year got my tooth filled and they noticed other cavities so I was put on a waiting list. It’s now October my concession card has run out and I’ve got a huge hole in my tooth that is most likely infected as I was on waiting list waiting for it to be filled. Rang them spoke to a lady and explained how much pain I was in and my financial situation and stated that I can’t afford private dental (who can these days?) and all she could say was “we can’t help you sorry” I’m disgusted.

Fantastic experience: I went in and unexpectedly had to have a molar pulled out, I'm very scared of needles and the thought of a tooth being pulled is terrifying but they were all very nice and friendly, I was given the time I needed and they made sure I had a safe way to get home. Thank you guys for making a bad experience pretty pleasant (It's like any other dentist when it comes to waiting, but the view is gorgeous)

Negative experience: Trying to cancel appointment. Been ringing all day with no success. On website states it closes at 4.45pm. Tried calling once again at 4.25pm and call cancelled as office closed. What a joke

Fantastic experience: Prior to being eligible for public dental care l was paying private dentists for years. I had asked various dentists many times if the problem with my rear tooth could be resolved, & the answer was always 'No'. Recently l attended Adelaide Dental Hospital. The senior supervising dentist gave an amazing explanation re what needed to be addressed by the 5th year student dentist. He explained it would be a tedious repair, yet expected good results. After years of discomfort this tooth is now repaired, & the painful food impaction issue is fully resolved. I'd rather be patient with the phone congestion & busy office service, & receive the 5 Star Treatment to fix my teeth. I am so grateful for Adelaide Dental Hospital which needs to be recognised as an Award Winning Dental Service.

Negative experience: Tried calling them all day to make an inquiry about my upcoming appointment. Couldn't get through at all. Started calling intermittently at 8:30 am until now, 3 pm. I've been stuck as second in the hold queue for the last half hour. Ridiculous. Don't let others take so long on the phone as it affects everyone else's chance of getting through. Can't imagine how busy people who work are meant to ever get through to speak to someone.

Fantastic experience: I had my first visit yesterday to the new facility on the 11th floor for an emergency filling (fabulous view of Adelaide!) I had an excellent experience with a Canadian student who was very thorough and thoughtful. His attention to detail was impeccable and I came away filled with hope for the public health system here in Adelaide. My wish is that the waiting period for ongoing dental care for the mass of our population who can not afford to go to a private dentist was much much shorter. I guess the question is why are our teeth not part of our overall health and well being? They certainly do impact on our physical and mental health when in great need of attention and as we age 2+ years is too long to wait before a general checkup.

Negative experience: Hospital is very good but one orthodontist in cubical 6 named Essma was hopeless! She is good in lecture and very terrible in dental practice. Its better for her to stay as a lecturer rather than being an orthodontist. She tries fool the paitent and she wasted my whole day. She works on Tuesdays and Fridays. I told her that i have a gap in my upper teeth and she is like "Having a gap in teeth is fashion these days..need not to treat it". I personally suggest to the hospital to avoid placing these sort of orthodontists. Its extremely annoying! Thank you

Fantastic experience: Very impressed with the new facility. My elderly mother has had two extractions done recently, and I am very pleased with how we have been cared for on both occasions. Mum has Alzheimer's, which can be challenging for a dental visit, but everybody we came into contact with were excellent in dealing with us. I don't mind if the wait time gets a bit lengthy if the staff do such a good job. Mum and I were trated very respectfully and the ops went well. Thanks to all. Regards Graham Eglinton

Fantastic experience: Nice shiny new facility, and staff very pleasant, prompt and easy to deal with during my appointment to have two widsom teeth extracted after 20 years of ignoring the problem. It's easy to criticise when you *know* you're getting a student to work on your teeth, but the truth is that most of us don't know with a private Dentist whether we're getting a truly gifted surgeon in the making or a complete and utter dud just scraping through by the skin of his... err..., and I'm the sort of person quite happy to have undergone a little extra post-op pain knowing that the dentist who ran across the problem removing a tooth with a stubborn, crooked root, has only taken positive lessons, tutelage and experience that will no doubt come in massively useful throughout their career. I do suspect the vast majority of private surgeons may have resulted in a small reduction in post-op pain because boy has the past week and a half been miserable, but *if* this is the case, it's a price I've been happy to pay.

Negative experience: Only available with a health care card. No other way to access, and no alternative way to prove financial hardship. They don't care. Plus a very rude receptionist.
