Oral Health Centre of Western Australia: Reviews
Fantastic experience: EXCEPTIONAL CARE AND PROFESSIONALISM After a negative experience with a prosthodontist, I came to see Jacinta Vu at the Oral Health Centre of WA in Como, feeling anxious and uncertain about persistent tooth pain. Before I even sat in the chair, Jacinta took the time to speak with me face-to-face, listen carefully, and genuinely understand my concerns — and that alone immediately eased much of my anxiety. She is not only extremely knowledgeable and thorough, but also warm, compassionate, and sincerely empathetic — a rare balance of professionalism and genuine care. Her calm manner and clear, detailed explanations made me feel completely reassured. My issue was quickly identified, and I left feeling confident, cared for, and relieved. Jacinta Vu is truly exceptional at her job — the epitome of a consummate professional — and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking thoughtful, expert, and empathetic dental care. Chris
Positive experience: 5 star service for the lovely student Christine who tended to my mum for multiple appointments for dentures. Patient and polite despite my mum's poor English skills. Just be mindful of the long waits between each appointments but can't complain for the price and service. Unfortunately -1 star for the staff at the reception who are rude and dismissive every single time! They also never answer the phone although fully staffed!
Fantastic experience: I have been looking for a dentist that would help me with my HORRIBLE teeth and these guys were the first to take me on without having heaps
Negative experience: I had asked to get a tooth extracted today but instead was constantly being told I am young and should try use students to help me to a free root canal and save my tooth but I didn’t want that I wanted my tooth pulled because I’m struggling with a lot of pain and now I have to wait longer to get my teeth sorted out because I didn’t get what I had asked for and just got peer pressured into getting a root canal done even though I kept insisting that I don’t have the money or the time to be doing this stuff because I have a 4 year old I am caring for.
Negative experience: Wait times for this place are a joke, there is absolutely no point having appointment times if you can't stick to them. Staff are very rude and very snobby felt very uncomfortable and anxious near them. Not worth waiting over a hour Would give no stars if possible
Fantastic experience: Wonderful and caring. It's not pleasant having your teeth worked on but it's necessary for good oral hygiene. Everyone i have met have been very supportive and extremely professional. Keep up the great work.
Negative experience: Went here to have my braces, very unhappy with end result. Had TADs put in, was told I won’t feel a thing and they didn’t even stop when I was screaming out in pain. Never got told anything about what was happening at my appts, can never get through to reception even though when I’m there, there’s like 5 people working. Once my braces were taken off, she smoothed my teeth down and then proceeded to put blobs of glue back on my teeth. Just pay the $6000, it’s not worth going here just for discount
Negative experience: Receptionist was very rude and refused to check me in to see my student for my appointment
Fantastic experience: everything has been excellent until last year the student only saw me twice once at the beginning of the and and his last appointment.. I have just spoken to a receptionist because I questioned why my recent appointment was cancelled she is being very helpful because I have been without a bottom denture for over two years . Debbie told me she is going to make the coordinator aware of this because the clinic should know the success and the not too successful activities the clinic provides.
Negative experience: Parking is horrible, staff are rude, do NOT get a tooth pulled!
Fantastic experience: I’ve had nothing but the best experience, remember everyone’s learning and in different classes. Be patient and kind. Would highly recommend year 6s especially Simone
Negative experience: Had been happy with the student dentists unfortunately when I was told to ring back in the new year they provided me with a qualified dentist who proceeded to extract the wrong tooth and receptionist informed me I had an invoice for the consultation. Students don't charge and I should of been informed that I was going to be charged for it. Happy to pay but they didn't remove the offending tooth nor were you transparent when it came to billing. You need to do better
Negative experience: This place has the worst customer service. Every time that I tried to call them, they always hang up on me for no reason and when I mentioned it they just said they don't know who was talking to me instead of just talking to the team to make sure that they shouldn't hang up on clients when they are not done. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!
Negative experience: Cancels your appointment then doesn't pick up the phone to allow you to rebook a new one. I have my top and bottom permanent retainer broke because you did a bad job in the first place.
Fantastic experience: I have been coming here since I was a child and now my daughter needed help with her teeth too. Everyone has been very helpful, especially the student dentists who have been very professional and helpful. The waiting list was significantly shorter than expected which was a lovely surprise. Please note: The receptionists can sometimes be a bit brusque- but I think that is completely understandable with the type of working environment they have to deal with. When I've been there I have seen the receptionist staff being verbally abused by clients parents, which was very unpleasant and stressful for staff and other patients waiting. Part of this is due to poor communication between the dental section and the front desk, leading to misunderstanding and frustration between clients and staff... ie the dentist is telling clients one thing about payment expectations, and the front desk is saying a different thing.
Fantastic experience: Cannot praise the excellent care & extensive treatment for my complicated dental work needed. Dr Vicki Ross, an Angel in disguise!
Fantastic experience: We met With Dr Mo for my son who is 8, PDA and has trauma from people treating him like he doesn't understand everything that is going on. Dr Mo was so nice. He was present with us and made jokes. He accommodated and listed to my sons needs. We managed to get everything we needed done and my son left relaxed and making jokes. I can't tell you how much this means to us. To be tempted with kindness and compassion is unfortunately rare and we so appreciate it. Thank you
Fantastic experience: My mum has been going here for years and I cannot fault the staff that work here. They are all so lovely, happy and accommodating! I feel the staff have to deal with a WIDE VARIETY of patients….as does anyone working in the public health system. From what I have witnessed while there, they handle any difficult patients with absolute professionalism.
Negative experience: Just to be clear the other staff were okay and weren’t rude and the dentists were all lovely and pleasant! 5/5 stars to them. Just had a problem with this one receptionist at the front desk: I arrived at around 8:22am today 15.05.2024 for a post surgery dental checkup appointment for my daughter. I spoke to a ginger haired middle aged lady with black framed glasses. She didn’t acknowledge me at first even tho I was right at the desk in front of her and waited for roughly 30 seconds. She didn’t even say hi and spoke to me rudely straight away. Spoke passive agreement towards me when I was trying to be polite. She just said what’s the child’s name and date of birthday in a rude abrupt manner. Then she said if I will be paying the full amount owed and didn’t explain what I owed and what it was for and I had to pry it out of her. She then responded rudely to me once again saying it was the payment I owed for my daughters dental surgery that is outstanding in which I said I was not able to pay in full but if I can pay in instalments and she rolled her eyes. I then confronted her about her behaviour towards me and she got very defensive saying she wasn’t being rude and smirked looking at her other colleagues next to her to see if she can get them to back her up but they didn’t. I was then called by one of the dentists for my daughters appointment and I told the dentist what happened and she said she would report the incident for me but as I turned back I saw that the lady was staring at me nastily and smirked once again looking to her colleagues with her hands up and shaking her head which I thought was very unprofessional and I was very upset after that experience.
Fantastic experience: This place is MARVELOUS ! They regularly perform Miracles & I can confirm most of The Oral Health Centre Staff are Saints They are kind, courteous & understanding I have been to the Oral Health Centre in Nedlands what seems like about 57 times now ......... There have been a few "minor setbacks" along the way, but that's Dentistry & a part of Life & their Great Staff have pushed on & continue to assist my gradual Dental Recovery I can't say enough about what these people do & how I have been treated for years & I am sure most of the "silent majority" would agree - we are thoroughly grateful for the Staff's attitude & expertise A Huge Shout Out to 2 Superb Dentists in Manorika Ratnaweera & Stephanie Chan & several others I have seen over the journey, including some excellent Students too - they have all been fantastic I sincerely hope you never HAVE to attend The Oral Health Centre ...... but IF you do, then have no fear, you are in great hands 17 Stars out of 5 ! Paul Hickman, March 2024
Fantastic experience: Excellent help with experienced guidance and specialists advice.
Negative experience: Had a very bad experience with one of the receptionist, is a very rude lady and disrespectful aswell as the manager who’s only resort to the problem was to blame the customer for being spoken to rudely, i couldn’t believe how the manager was treating me saying that they don’t record calls as I asked for proof of the call is recorded and speaking to me very condescendingly i don’t know how this is a professional workplace as of any sort with Daniel Hopkins as the manager, he was just as rude as the receptionist didn’t even give me the time to say my piece of what happened just chose to believe his receptionist I just can’t believe the disgustingness of service these people bring people and treat them and they are a government service I really think something needs to be done just because you work in a office doesn’t give you right to treat anyone other then how you would want to be treated I can’t believe the childish behaviour the manager was giving me on the phone it just shows this place needs a reality check.
Negative experience: They keep me in for half an hour
Fantastic experience: Been going to the dental clinic for five years now. These people are students who are doing their best. I have not had any problems with the service my teeth which were sad are now less sad and the store bought dentures are fabulous. Please try to understand what you have signed up for. Most of us are getting the service for next to nothing
Fantastic experience: I was given my very first appointment on the 12th October. I have been to 4 appointments and still 2 to go before the students have there well deserved break. It's been over 20 years since going to a dentist and my student Chris has been amazing. Big thankyou
Fantastic experience: I was dreading my appointment after reading all the negative reviews, but my experience was pleasant, friendly and professional..
Positive experience: I had to go to the clinic on Thursday, I live in the bush in Toodyay and it is a hike to come down, I had a huge abscess on my left upper K9 and the one to be left of it, my top set of teeth are basically stumps due to various sessions of radiotherapy, I told my story to the receptionist and I was absolutely blown away from that point at how kind, efficient, professional, (all trainee dentists are supervised) I was assessed, xrayed, then they set up an emergency dentist, took me to said dentist, had 3 teeth out, the one with the huge abscess unfortunately when being removed opened up a cavity to the sinus, the trainee dentist got confirmation from his supervisor I then had a appointment to see the TOP oral Surgeon in charlies, 1pm she was patching up my jaw, stitching me up and sent me on my way. I cannot thank these people enough, we are ripped off in the bush and for us in Toodyay it is mostly a 50km RETURN drive to find a somewhat affordable dentist in Northam IF YOU CAN GET IN especially if you are on a pension Being treated like a human by caring people trying to do their jobs properly, is such a pleasure (well dentistry isn't fun but...) They are working out a treatment plan to fix my teeth, I can't be happier and to have teeth again some time soon after 16 years. And not be embarrassed to smile I am having troubles imagining it.
Negative experience: Waiting 5 yrs for implants I was put on the wait list, they ruined my teeth completely they kept snapping off, working on one tooth for like 5 weeks then it snapped off where are my implants.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been attending OHCWA for about 3 years now. I’ve been blessed with having the same dentist work on my teeth and gums and she has been amazing! I’m currently in the process of having implants put in and my dentist has been so kind, understanding and patient in regards to my emotional needs with my ASD & ADHD. The supervising dentist comes and checks in whenever I’m having major work done. All the staff I’ve dealt with have been very kind and helpful. The only complaint I’ve had is that parking is at times a headache which is expected and they do suggest to use public transport. I’m so grateful for the dental school because without it, I wouldn’t have been able to get the amount of work done on my mouth that I’ve needed. Thank you OHCWA for the service that you provide!
Negative experience: The dentist changed the appointment time without asking.
Fantastic experience: I’m super grateful for the dental care my dad receives at the Oral Health Centre at little to no cost. My dad is very happy with the treatment he has received over the years and how thorough the students are . The facility itself is also fantastic and the waiting room is a nice clean and hygienic space - considering how busy the place gets: thank you.
Negative experience: Patronising, dentist told me 4 times in 20 minutes that, if only I won lottery could I have teeth that fit. Dentist wanted this appt to review impacted teeth. But today, he hadn't even seen the xrays he ordered, decided he didn't want to and did the consult without, even though the xrays were available. He could have done this consult last time if he didn't need them! He then insisted I make the decision today to have, or not, multiple teeth, including impacted wisdom teeth, removed. I can't even decide if he knows what the best thing to do is.
Fantastic experience: Staff here are amazing. My daughter had a lot of Dental issues and they were very great with explaining everything to me. She recently had her surgery an there were no issues, she is now home recovering and I couldn't thank the staff enough. I mean it was a long wait to get here but in the end what needed to be done has been done and I'm glad that such a group of Knowledgeable people were able to help. I can't thank them enough
Negative experience: I am very upset with this dentistry, they last minute cancel appointments on you but when you do the same they threaten to kick you out, the hipocrisy in this industry is ridiculous.
Negative experience: one of the rudest receptionists i’ve ever seen. i just witnessed her yelling at a lady who didn’t have the best english. instead of asking the lady what her name was, the receptionist decides to yell, “I DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE, WHO ARE YOU”. and then the receptionist decides to yell, “I DON’T UNDERSTAND YOU” over and over again while the lady was trying to talk. she didn’t even give the lady a chance to speak! when there are language barriers in the workplace, you should be patient and respectful but NOPE she was extremely rude and impatient to this poor lady. her customer service was absolutely DISGUSTING. Anyways, not only is the receptionist rude, the parking sucks. There should be more parking bays! If i could give this place no stars i would lol
Negative experience: No stars. Wish I had of read the reviews before going. It’s been a yr and a half and I’ve only had 3 appointments- latest one has been canceled (again) and now told have to wait until December. My front tooth they were “fixing” (which was fine before the dentist Jackie started fiddling with it) is now black and will have to be removed- and they still don’t care and still happy to charge me for it. Absolutely disgusting and devastated.
Positive experience: Excellent service, thorough, clean, pleasant service and well supervised.
Fantastic experience: Very dedicated professional staff I only have good things to say ! Very caring and considerate
Negative experience: First off, NO STAR. I called to make an appointment to visit the clinic and was spoken to so rudely by a female receptionist (17/08/2022) that I actually didn't even bother and went to a whole different suburb. I have never in my whole life experienced such disrespect from someone in a pawn position at work. Absolutely astonished and don't recommend anyone to this clinic. The reviews on the clinic speak for itself, broken tooth, bad staff etc.. Called another clinic and got through without issue.
Positive experience: Havnt had a drama there polite and helpful staff only thing is parking there is a drama
Negative experience: one of the workers made an unnecessary comment toward a part of my face in an X-ray several years ago and TO THIS DAY I am extremely insecure of that part of my face. y'all deserve 0 customers
Fantastic experience: I have been going to the centre for years... Got my dentures for free.. Never had any problems with them... Maybe i have been lucky, but i always had amazing students.. Keep up the good work...
Fantastic experience: Besides the annoying Covid cancellations which is not their fault I give them 10/10 for all the work they do.
Negative experience: Rude staff who took my call. I’m still waiting and no one knows when i will be seen - almost 1.5 years in waiting. Simply awful service!!
Fantastic experience: My daughter had an issue with her braces. She was seen the same day by an OHCWA Orthodontist, the issue was dealt with and it didn't cost anything. And parking at $2/hour! Can't ask for much more than that!
Fantastic experience: Which form is it online for new patients?
Fantastic experience: Thankyou for the wonderfull dentistry a very pleasant experience.A big thankyou to Serena.
Negative experience: Whats with the answering of phones? Do people just sit there at the desk and ignore it ive been there before and there are a few people that man the desk so surely one of them could answer a phone
Negative experience: WARNING EVERYONE Please everyone who is planing on having any crowns done stop. After two attempts I lost the tooth and now have to see orthodontist to corect my bite with bracess. About 8-10 thousand dollars demage was done by their dentist SAMUEL DENG. And what's worse they don't want to be held accountable.
Negative experience: Rude receptionist.
Negative experience: I wish the reception staff would look at these reviews...or more importantly their boss.
Fantastic experience: Vicki is very nice and can’t wait to see her every time.
Negative experience: Reception staff extremely rude, unhelpful and disinterested but I get the distinct impression that the problem is coming from further up the rungs. A reception staff member that I reached via telephone used words to the effect: "It has not been fun working here." One staff member was non-combative and intelligent enough to realise that patients who've had the run around aren't to blame for their misfortune in working there. Was told I'd have an appointment for oral surgery for my eleven year old in six weeks after initial visit which was tedious and bumbling to say the least. Now some fifteen weeks out I still cannot get a straight answer about it from anyone in reception. Have been told certain relevant individuals are away up in the Kimberley, away on leave. I've heard it all. It is super disorganised and there is no centralisation of information. The whole operation needs a complete re-work. U.W.A. need be ashamed to be associated with it.
Positive experience: The first receptionist I saw has no idea how to communicate with a deaf person, when I told her I am deaf, she just nodded and kept talking though her mask didnt even try and point to the chairs to indicate that is what she was trying to say to take a seat. My daughter eventually understood and told me. The dentist that saw my daughter though was wonderful and understanding. Even explaining to the 2nd receptionist that I was deaf and would need to lower her mask. Also the TV showing information changes to quickly to actually fully read the information.
Fantastic experience: Twenty years of attending this clinic I have had nothing but exemplary service and absolutely nothing at all to complain about. Everyone of the staff I have come in contact with have been exceptionally cheerful and nice and always acted in a professional manner. I can accept that this is not the view of everyone but it is beyond my my experience to think of anyone at the clinic but in good terms. Thanks all of you for your help.
Fantastic experience: I have been there many times. I find they are great.
Fantastic experience: Attending Oral Health centre with my son I was pleasantly surprised to observe the care and patience provided by Georgia while observing her dealing with very trying clients. Keep up the great attitude Georgia! Others at that reception desk can learn a great deal from you.
Negative experience: Very rude receptionist. Talking back and using inappropriate words and unprofessional, she wasn’t doing her job probably. The lady that was on duty on the 13th of August at 12.15pm if managers care and want to follow this, she was disrespectful.
Negative experience: Reception staff are so rude.
Negative experience: I had a rather awful experience here, i was seeing a particular dentist, he seem to dislike me the moment i walked into the room, i was told "you people ' dont normally go ahead with treatment, then made me keep my mouth open so wide, like i never experience with any other dentist, my jaw was aching beyond belief, i mentioned this, i also mentioned i have had a car accident and can't crane my neck back any more, this fell on deaf ears, and i suffered migraines for days and dizziness, and my jaw took months to recover, zero care factor here.
Fantastic experience: Got through for a short wait for Reception. They were very helpful.
Positive experience: The dentist and the nurse were lovely but the receptionist was rude.
Negative experience: Receptionist are so rude and the dentist was so rough.
Fantastic experience: Always had excellent treatment there. I have been going there for 9 years now. The only thing that ongoing treatment is slow.
Negative experience: Perth Oral Heath Center emergency... 27 minutes on hold then a New Zealand receptionist, advises, You will have an inpection with a student Dentist but none are available at present. But i know what's wrong? My Dental plate has collapsed and needs repair. When will i see the Dentist? "After you have seen the inspection Dentist you will go on a waiting list, for treatment, were very busy". May i speak with a supervisor please. No reply. Phone rings....Recorded message, David Hopkins, leave a message. Over half an hour wasted for nothing. A really bad performance. I don't know if i should be angry or grateful for not getting any treatment. ...Mr Hopkins has just called. No comment.."Have a nice day mate". THE END.
Negative experience: Rude receptionists Students are friendly however you will not be in the right hands, save yourself money and time and go to an actual experienced dentist. Had a splint mould made and placed in my mouth and as they took it off the front composite of my tooth came off. Also I had two chipped front teeth and the student had tried to make both look even however one tooth is longer than the other.
Fantastic experience: Good place
Negative experience: Hey I been on the waiting list for over 3 years to get my wisdom teeth out and I didn't get anything to my hubby friend rang up and they could see I been on the waiting list for awhile and they gave him a appointment for me to go on the 11/02/2020 and when I went there they said I have get all my teeth pulled out but 6 them down the bottom and I have to be put asleep and a specialist have do it and I got a medicare card and a pension card and they said it's going cost me $800 cash in hand before they do anything...it's that right or not??and im in heaps pain 24/7 and I just stay home and I'm not eating much and all I'm doing is taking 2 my mum tramadol and it just put me asleep that how I'm out pain..all I do is sleep all day n night and I post be my mum career and hubby coz my mother is in a wheelchair but I can't career for both when I'm always in heaps pain
Negative experience: Shame on you !waiting more than 3 yers?
Negative experience: Current orthodontist has left. No replacement. Staff dont seem to care that son is in the middle of braces treatment. No explanation or help. A subsidised treatment should not be an excuse for poor patient care.
Negative experience: Customer service skills are horrible especially the staff at reception, extremely rude and pretty useless tbh. Dentists here are extremely good, gotta take the good with the bad.
Negative experience: Most rudest receptionist to ever talk to i was on a phone call with them i was writing down a phone number i was talking very nice and calm and i asked to repeat it and the person gave me a rude tone.
Negative experience: Bad service.. long time waiting .. unfriendly receiptionist ..they are extremely bad
Positive experience: Staff are so helpful.
Negative experience: Unbelievable. The staff were quite abrupt and we were messed around with no explanations given
Negative experience: The most rudest, obnoxious, unprofessional Receptionist you ever find on planet.
Negative experience: Staff at the front desk are horrendous. Look up unhelpful in the dictionary and you will find a photo of the staff sitting behind the front desk at Oral Health Centre. They be better off having a machine that you could check into your appointment with when you get there as well as a automated system that leaves messages for the appropriate dental student if you need to get hold of them by phone. Shame really as the dental student looking after us is actually really good and helpful.
Positive experience: I wrote the following 4 years ago but I have modify my view in that they are not well organised. They keep sending me Statements saying I have to pay in 14 days but I have already paid according to the schedule and when I ring and enquire about it they say I don't have to pay. I just ignore there paper statements apparently the computer spits out meaninless rubbish. Also they have settled on one dentist who has been doing a good job One of our sons has significant problems with his teeth. So we have been to the oral health centre many times. They are generally quite well organised parking is not too difficult and we don't usually have to wait too long for our appointment. My only criticism would be that they seem to change dentist frequently so each time you go you see a different person. I guess this is due to the way in which they are stuffed
Negative experience: I have to take my 13 year old there . I was surprised staff force my child to walk in alone for the dental treatment in orthodontic clinic. she was nervous and so upset almost crying . I have requested my presence at treatment which they refuse. Only solution is not getting treatment that's what they said. Reception staff unbelievably rude and unprofessional, if your child need parents with them think twice. But same time endodontic clinic is very friendly doctors and staff all five stars for them.i have to tick one star to make a comment otherwise i will take that star out too.
Negative experience: Rudest receptionists ever
Negative experience: We have been on a waiting list from 2014 until now 2018 we are at the TOP of the waiting list...we have done the same paperwork 5 times and still got no where. The ladies that work here are absolutely rude and unprofessional. I drove one hour just to hand the 5th lot of the SAME paperwork in. This is just crazy now. Not happy at all.
Negative experience: I've been to this clinic a few years back for some emergency dental work and had no problems at all. The staff, at that time, were friendly and efficient. However, this time around, I have had nothing but problems. I need emergency surgery for an impacted wisdom tooth, and I can't even get through to the clinic via phone, it just rings out. My referral was forgotten, and when the dentist finally resent it as an emergency, the OHC put me on an 18 month wait list! The receptionist that I spoke to was rude, disinterested and very unhelpful.... I explained to her that the number she gave me kept ringing out, and her response was, "oh, so you only tried ringing them 3 times today, was that it?" Not a very professional thing to say, in my opinion. I am hopeful though, that the surgeons are very good and professional. I'm confident that once I actually get into the appointment that everything will go smoothly. I hope this helps someone, somewhere.
Negative experience: Tried to ring them for an emergency visit as they are the only place open on the weekend, even calling between the hours they are open (2-5pm) you are greeted with a prerecorded message to call back during open hours and given the same number you just rang. Considering this is supposed to be an EMERGENCY clinic this is pretty terrible.
Fantastic experience: My initial visit was long, and a thorough examination. Some of the younger qualified dentists might be perceived as condescending at first, but they have your oral health at the top priority. If their bedside manner might need a bit of work, their knowledge does not. I was paired with a student dentist who is very knowledgeable of the different dental procedures. If you have a health care card, give them a chance. It'll save you from paying through the nose.
Negative experience: my son is waiting for 2 year. for treatment I just call them, the lady who answer the phone I tolled her my son waiting very long time could be 2 year by now, she told quickly the waiting time is 3 years before treatment start. so just could be this year cold be not, not sure
Negative experience: Terrible continue to cancel appointments and no one rings to inform you on cancelations
Negative experience: Not even worth one star, horrible staff, treatment was that bad that I had to get if fixed privately costing me over $2000 not happy at all!!!
Negative experience: The dental technicians and students who treated me were great-the reception staff not so much. I was spoken down to and treated rudely by a receptionist called Kash, who seemed annoyed with me even being there and directed me to the wrong area of the clinic, which made things more difficult for the dental staff. They were lovely about it, and said that unfortunately the receptionists don’t do their jobs properly. It’s a shame, because there are people who would actually love to have a secure job, and then there are people like this who obviously hate it and take it out on everyone around them. It’s very telling when dental students who are training to be professionals are more better in their conduct than the actual supposed “professionals” who are paid to be there.
Fantastic experience: My 15 yr old daughter & myself are both patients of OHCWA,my daughter had braces that they assessed and prepared her for and fitted them approx 2 yrs ago,she has regular checks and adjustments done every 4-5 weeks and the braces are doing their job well. I have been with the OHCWA since February 2015, when I was initially assessed for significant work needed for several deep root canal therapies due to an infection in my jaw as a result of an ill fitting partial denture that was well overdue to be upgraded.I was given an action plan with an estimated time frame for this work to be carried out,I agreed after much discussion,so I well understood that if I should choose to be worked on by final year students under the careful supervision of the Doctors, that financially, it would help me considerably in reducing costs. I have to admit initially I was a little hesitant, but once I had my student and work had begun, I was somewhat relieved and continued with my steady pace of appts every 1-2 weeks to slowly but gradually -make -a - dent- so to speak in some of the work that needed doing. I'm so used to using public transport to travel the 2HRS required each appt and arriving, checking in at the reception and barely arriving in the immediate area of the clinic and my student is already walking out to greet me with a smile and in to my chair for the usual 2-3hrs whilst they methodically and effectively attend to another stage towards remedying my teeth.. My student works in regular discussions before and after each appt to keep me informed of the progress and is fairly amicable about the appt times,I for the most part have kept my appts and arrive on time and to date,we are on schedule with the long term plan originally laid out.I know that if I chose to use any different student each visit,or used the services of the doctors alone for my treatment, even though it would be somewhat faster,I would not be able to afford the treatment financially at the same rate, eg time allotted ..But when I'm nearing the end of work needed and I am ready for the cosmetic dentistry eg denture plate and crowns, then I shall use the available specialist of course..
Negative experience: Seriously disappointing. My son had an appointment set for 3pm which was canceled by them an hour before we were due to arrive. When I was speaking with "Amanda" and expressing my disappointment I received attitude and i did not receive an apology for the inconvenience. Only to be told the appointment will be rescheduled for another month. Unacceptable
Positive experience: Despite being a public patient sent over from the free clinic I was scheduled for dental surgery within the week and well cared for.
Positive experience: Staff are friendly/helpful - dentist is great. However your appointments are cancelled without any explanation and new appointment is month/s away without any say
Negative experience: Had orthodontists here clown around with my teeth for over 6 years. One would get them OK until a new amateur would practice on me and mangle my teeth. The first student, Sam would swear at me and take out his anger on my mouth that I can only presume was deep seeded daddy issues. Finally after 3 ortho-amateurs, my braces are taken out, and some dim woman with a dermal almost put holes in my teeth when removing the glue. She was too busy ranting about her privilege-girl problems to focus on my teeth. I now have dents in all my teeth where the glue was. My bite is worse than before and my teeth aren't even straight. Do not let these amateurs practice on you. Would you let a student heart surgeon do your surgery?
Negative experience: I hate the place they stuffed up my teeth a third year students and I want them fixed or else I am going to take it to the Dental Board complaints of Australia
Positive experience: Excellent service. Student examining my tooth was well supervised and advised by the qualified dentist.
Positive experience: Helpful and nice staff. They gave discount as I am a UWA student but, my appointment took a few days; loaded.
Negative experience: Shocking. Had a splint made. It was so painful, they readjusted it 6 times but still couldn't get it right. It ended up breaking off part of a tooth. I got a temporary filling done for the tooth that was broken by the emergency dental services and they told me to get a permanent filling straight away. Went back to the dental hospital and despite asking at least 4 times for it to be replaced I was told each time by the students that it was fine. Later on the temporary filling came loose and there was a big cavity that nearly resulted in root canal therapy and a crown - still waiting to see if that is necessary. When they finally replaced the temporary filling the first filling shattered and the second one that they did was loose and so painful to bite down on that I avoided using that side of my mouth for about 3 months. I ended up going to another dentist to get it fixed and am also getting a new splint made there too. Really wish I had just gone there first, even though it would have been more expensive, it would have saved a tooth and over 7 visits to the dentist that lasted nearly 2 hours each time.
