Negative experience: Went in for a check up and clean and it was the worst experience I have had. They charged me $200 for this and the clean was the worst I have ever had. I would have had a better clean just flossing myself and using my electric toothbrush. She then wanted to extract a tooth and do a filling which was going to cost me $1000. Not good enough. I said I was not happy with the clean but I was ignored. I took this appointment because I had a toothache which has not been solved. Beware if appointments are readily available as there is a reason for this. I won’t be returning.

Negative experience: I'm not usually a complainer but I had to recount my honest experience to hopefully help others make an informed decision of coming to this place. Most people have seemed to have positive experiences, but maybe reconsider if you're coming with a health voucher. I had an emergency appointment today and I came with a Public Dental Health Voucher, so I'm not sure if that's what changed my experience. The receptionist was lovely and was great at getting me an appointment. The tech was also polite. However, the dentist Dr Rupali didn't introduce herself. After taking a quick history, she took some x-rays. She inserted an object in my mouth to take the x-ray, and it was very large and made me gag, and she didn't even warn me how it would feel at all. All she said was "open wide." After that was done, I heard some clicking and rustling in the background for a few minutes as we waited for the results of the x-ray, and I hear her ask the tech to get the "NSW health fees book." She then explained to me what the x-ray images were showing and what my options were. I asked clarifying questions, and amongst her response, she said "I don't think you get it." Eventually I understood what she was explaining, but it really didn't feel like she cared if I did or not, just that she could get on with the procedure. For context, she decided to take control of the gum infection with some sort of procedure and antibiotics today, and I'd have to consider surgery to remove the wisdom tooth at another time. I wasn't sure why we couldn't extract the tooth then and there, as I had read many reviews that she had done that. She said that "I'd have to refer you to the surgeons to do it and it'd be very expensive and wouldn't be covered by your voucher." I'm sure there's very good reason why we couldn't extract in that chair today but at that point, I was beyond asking any more questions. Communication was not her strong point. They seemed to hurry on and get going. Two very sharp and painful needles went into my gums without any warning. She just said "keep breathing" after I had winced away from the pain of the first needle. By the time my gums were numb, they went away at it, but she also started to explain what I should do in my recovery. "Keep it dry..." I don't even remember because I was so shocked by the pain and there was a lot going on in my mouth while she was speaking. And obviously I couldn't speak back to clarify any of those instructions. She also never asked if I had any questions after she was done. She never explained exactly what she had done, what were the risks etc. It was a very quick wrap up and goodbye. Even in the waiting room as I was waiting for my script for the antibiotics, I asked her if she could write me a medical certificate and she said "the receptionist will sort you out with that" and hurried away. I hate to complain because I did end up getting free quick healthcare. And if that's what you're looking for then I would recommend her because it was definitely quick and free. But if you're looking for a more comfortable and cared for experience, or have some money to spend, I'd urge you to reconsider. I'm not usually an anxious person and I would fear for anyone who is to sit in that position I was in today. I believe there should be a minimum standard of healthcare, especially in Australia and regardless of whether you've paid or not. But often people overlook the bedside manners and communication skills that are imperative to good healthcare. I hope the practice also reflects on this. Good luck.

Negative experience: Disappointing Experience with My Daughter's Dental Care We’ve been bringing our 5-year-old daughter to this practice for over 2 years, and the experience has been frustrating. The main issues: Inconsistent Diagnoses: Initially, we were told everything was fine with her teeth, but later we were informed of cavities and required fillings. The communication felt unclear, especially since I had raised concerns earlier. Unresolved Front Teeth Issues: I’ve raised concerns about yellow stains on my daughter’s front teeth multiple times, but the advice keeps changing. One doctor said they’d fall out soon, another said they were fine, and most recently, we were told it’s dentin, but no action was taken to clean or treat them. Referral to a Specialist Without Details: We were referred to a specialist for potential enamel defects, but no specifics were given about the type of specialist or what exactly is wrong, leaving us confused about next steps. Doctor Change Without Notification: We were never informed that a different dentist would be treating us, making the care feel inconsistent. Adult Dentist Treating a Child: One doctor recently mentioned she wasn’t a pediatric specialist but before that she continued treatment without hesitation or clarification, which seemed concerning given the complexity of treating children’s dental health. If a dentist is not qualified for pediatric care, it should be made clear before proceeding with treatment for children. The lack of communication and clear answers has been disappointing. I hope this practice takes these concerns seriously and improves its care and transparency moving forward.

Dr Singhania and her team offer courteous, supportive and exceptional service, together with honest, and transparent advice, without the unnecessary “upsell” of complex dental plans. Having used the Primary Dental team at Charlestown for both emergency dental treatment and routine care, I would not go anywhere else again. Hands down, the best dental care in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie area.

The staff were supportive and conversational, which made me feel very comfortable throughout the entire appointment. The dentist was very knowledge and answered all of my questions.
