Fantastic experience: TMJ physio has given me fast relief from chronic pain I have had for thirty years. I had lock-jaw 3 years ago and was desperate for help when a dentist told me about physiotherapists who specialise in TMJ related pain. It turns out that the root cause of the lock-jaw was a shoulder injury I incurred 30 years ago. With maintenance therapy on my shoulders, neck, head and jaw to keep my muscles from tightening up, I am feeling the best I have felt in over thirty years. I highly recommend this practice.

Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic assessment for my clicking jaw today! The Physio I saw was incredibly thorough, and gave me a comprehensive explanation of why my jaw has been clicking, along with a thorough treatment plan. He also gave me excellent treatment to my upper neck and jaw muscles, which is already receiving the tension around my face and jaw. I highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I rarely leave reviews, but I must for this place. It has been an absolute lifesaver for my chronic, worsening headaches, which turned out to be a TMJ issue. The treatment I received here surpassed anything I’ve experienced with other osteopaths. After just one visit, I felt like a functioning human again. I cannot stress enough the relief I experienced, and I’m eagerly awaiting my next appointment. The specialists, including Surbhi, are exceptionally professional and caring, as is the reception staff. I finally feel in safe hands. This place is well worth it for anyone with pain, especially around the neck, face, mouth, or TMJ.

Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend Chris at More Than Physio highly enough! Over the last 12 months (on and off) I’d suffered excruciating facial pain for weeks on end, unable to open my mouth to talk or eat at times, terrible brain fog and fatigue like I’d never experienced before. Accompanying those symptoms were the most intense and debilitating migraines I’ve ever had. Upon seeing my GP, I was sent for a Brain MRI which thankfully came back all clear. However, my GP was stumped and basically threw his hands in the air and told me to “go get a massage”.. that left me feeling quite hopeless. Over the next few months the symptoms dissipated until I was back to “normal”. There were a few small “flare ups” but nothing major until about 6-7 weeks ago when the symptoms returned with force. After mentioning to a relative what my symptoms were, they suggested it may be TMJ. After researching TMJ, it sounded exactly like what I was experiencing. I started searching for a Physio who specialized in treating TMJ which led me to More Than Physio. I felt so at ease with Chris straight away because he truly understood the invisible pain I was describing and reassured me I wasn’t imaging the pain. After the very first session, I could feel a difference! It made me so hopeful that Chris could help me get this condition under control. I walked away after that first session knowing I’d found the right person to treat me. I’m so grateful to Chris and the care he’s provided over the last 6 weeks or so. I’ve also been given some self massage techniques to use but also know I can go and see Chris again if I need to. Absolutely recommend! ** UPDATED REVIEW 30/5/25** After no TMJ issues for a few years, I recently had to attend the clinic again for treatment. This time I saw Callum Campbell. Again, I can’t recommend Callum highly enough. He has a wonderful, gentle bedside manner and explains everything he’s doing in great depth. He’s very gentle and after only 2 treatments, my TMJ has once again subsided. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Callum.

Fantastic experience: Very happy with the service I received from Ross. I attended the TMJ centre to treat a TMJ disorder which came on suddenly. With regular treatment and a self management plan I was able to get it sorted. Ross was always considerate and helpful and of course has a lovely sense of humour.

Fantastic experience: I saw Dr Cynthia Ma for help with jaw pain and ongoing dizziness that my GP couldn't figure out for months. She sent me for xrays that turned out to find a cyst and significant infection coming from a tooth into my sinuses. She also organised a splint for me to help with my jaw clenching at night. Dr Cynthia is really considerate, attentive, and personal in her follow up. I really recommend Dr Cynthia and the team of Physios at TMJ. They've helped me a lot.

Fantastic experience: I've been really happy with my treatment here. I've seen Shan twice now, and he's taken care to understand my symptoms and explain to me the ways in which many elements are interacting to cause my pathology. I was also given a booklet to read at home which offered further explanation - I appreciated the extra thoughtfulness and effort on the part of the Centre that led them to prepare the booklet - I have a memory like a sieve! Shan performed some simple but painful manipulations during both sessions that improved some of my symptoms immediately. What a relief - that demonstrated to me that he knew what was going on and could fix it. At the second appointment, I was given a treatment plan that I can work on by myself, at home, and it's really working so well so far. All of my symptoms have greatly improved; I'm very grateful. The treatment plan was also emailed to me, complete with videos, to aid my useless memory. The consults are much more expensive than a standard physiotherapist, but these are TMJ experts, and I'd prefer to pay more and get the right treatment (I've already seen a generalised physio plus a TMJ dentist, and this Centre is much better).

Negative experience: This is a cautionary tale to not be fooled by the tactics employed by these snake oil merchants. They have a script that they follow in upselling and cross selling products and services. When pressed for further information or to have it in writing they will back down and back peddle. I actually believe that they intentionally make adjustments to worsen your condition so that you are required to seek further treatment. This is a business whose aim is to make as much money as possible from your suffering. They have proven to do more harm than good. I suggest that you ignore these 5 star reviews as nothing more than marketing hype. Seek help elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Had a couple of months of regular appointments with osteo, Kevin. Haven't needed to call in sick AT ALL since then, because he's taught me how to self manage my TMJ issues. Fantastic experience: I am very grateful for the professional care from Anna Mamone who has assisted me with TMJ issues where I was unable to open my mouth, have broken teeth due to bruxism and a crooked head due to neck and shoulder tightening from stress. Fantastic experience: Dr Cynthia’s consultation was extremely beneficial to me understanding my Tmj condition after several months of severe pain. My appt waiting time was only 2 weeks and very pleased to accept her proposed plan of tailor made dental splints. One month onwards it’s wonderful to not wake with jaw discomfort. I’m also doing daily exercise of my jaw as Dr Cynthia advised. In addition, I am receiving physio therapy to improve my neck and jaw posture from the same centre. Fantastic experience: I had treatments with Melanie for my jaw, neck and shoulder pain. I am happy and satisfied with the treatments and results. I had been suffering from this pain for two years and had previously sought help from various practitioners, but my jaw and shoulder pain persisted. My dentist suggested that my jaw might be misaligned and recommended me to see a TMJ specialist. Melanie proved to be incredibly knowledgeable and patient. After initial consultation, she accurately diagnosed my jaw issue and outlined a plan for subsequent sessions. She also provided me with exercises to complement the treatments. I experienced noticeable improvements after each session. After a few sessions, my jaw pain subsided completely, and my jaw and teeth were properly aligned. The time taken to help me find the triggers to pain and tension and educate me on how to avoid these was as helpful as the hands-on physio. Fantastic experience: I started seeing Anna Mamone a few months ago, seeking treatment for chronic jaw pain that I have experienced for years, accompanied by bodily tension and pain caused by stress. Anna's calm and quiet manner is a perfect fit for me, I immensely look forward to seeing her each week and always leave feeling a bit calmer and very much soothed. Fantastic experience: I am so grateful to Melanie and the centre for their treatment of my TMJ issues. I had a sudden onset of jaw pain and a locked jaw. I was unable to chew or eat without significant pain. I also had constant headache and earache from my jaw and it was unbearable. The GP and dentist both advised anti-inflamms, heat (&cold!) and to "rest" the jaw, with a referral to a specialist, which had a 13 week wait before I could even be assessed, let alone treated. They also indicated it was something I was likely to have to learn to live with. Following a recommendation from a friend, and researching google reviews, I booked an appointment with Melanie at the TMJ centre within 48hrs. She was able to get some movement in my jaw on the first visit. Within 4 visits, and doing exercises in between to treat the underlying issues, Melanie completely unlocked my jaw and I was able to chew without any pain! The treatment is gentle and targeted, yet extremely effective (significantly less than the pain of chewing was!). I am incredibly grateful for the TMJ Centre - providing a fast effective treatment to remove the pain and restore full function, where all other avenues said it was not possible, or a long wait to find out. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone experiencing any jaw issues to come to the TMJ centre.

Fantastic experience: If you are reading this review and have a challenge with your TMJ, jaw misalignment, headache, working on a desk most of the time, and having a sore neck and shoulder esp between the shoulder blades - your choice of therapist is Melanie Tam. I tried to avoid TMJ specialists due to the sound of it being just too expensive for me. But after almost 10 years of several, misdiagnosed, ineffective treatments from chiro, physio, and acupuncturist.. I am so glad I gave TMJ specialist a go (after reading the reviews of course).. well the rest is history. I have been seeing Melanie for more than 6 months now. Mel's kindness and expertise helped relax the correct muscles and she also equipped me to self-manage my stiff neck and back due to work daily that helped prevent so many headaches! PS for those self-help peeps watch out for going to chiro for your TMJ and already unstable jaw because the treatment of cracking my neck made my teeth alignment out of wack and caused so much headache so I quickly went to Mel. She made herself available due to my SOS situation and helped me relax my muscles and move my jaw back to not perfect but acceptable position again no more headaches since then! I could almost cry! Fantastic experience: I’ve had a very good experience with my physio Melanie who has been effective in treating my TMJ pain and associated tinnitus. Seeing Melanie monthly over the past several months alongside one session with an audiologist that she recommended, has helped to reduce my tinnitus significantly to the point where it has now become largely unnoticeable and no longer bothersome. The TMJ pain has also become much more manageable. Highly recommended for anyone with a similar condition.

Fantastic experience: Cannot give this place enough, praise!! When I first came in, my jaw was so sore and I was experiencing constant headaches. Within a few months of treatment, I am feeling healed. I haven’t had a headache for weeks, whole my sleep and stress management has dramatically improved. Anna’s treatment was amazing, and she really listened to how I was feeling. I have to also mention how lovely the reception staff are. I accidentally once went to the wrong clinic and they were so understanding and flex. If you’re having jaw pain, get it sorted A.S.A.P. because you won’t know yourself when it it’s all fixed ✨

Fantastic experience: I was diagnosed with TMD about 4 years ago now and only since seeing Anna at the TMJ & Facial Pain Centre have I felt any real relief. Prior to attending, I was feeling really helpless with my condition, seeing numerous osteo’s, chiro’s, spending on Botox but still living in pain on a daily basis. Positive experience: I had the most incredible experience being treated by Pete for chronic pain caused by TMJ dysfunction. I can't fault his treatment and how kind and accommodating he was during appointments. My review is of the administration, not the treatment. I had a care plan sent via email to the clinic by my dentist, then by my GP, to cover five sessions, which reception claimed to have never received and informed me that without it, my sessions would not be covered by Medicare I would have to pay upfront. Being in pain and desperate for relief I ended up out of pocket for a number of sessions. I cannot say whether this was deliberate, but regardless I was left feeling take advantage of and uncomfortable that they didn't seem interested in properly searching for my care plan (I was in the room with my GP and physically watched them type my plan out and send it to the correct address). In hindsight this could have been resolved by owning a physical copy of my plan - it doesn't help that I'm autistic and struggle with working these things out It's a shame because the treatment improved my overall quality of life so immensely, but as a low income chronic pain sufferer I just feel too uncomfortable with the way the situation played out to return. I would still highly recommend Pete to any fellow TMJ sufferers!

Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback. Firstly, I am really glad to hear about the great response you had to our treatment for your TMJ issue and the fact that you would highly recommend us to others.
In regards to your Care Plan not having been received by our reception I can only apologise that this was not followed up sufficiently and the team member you delt with is no longer with us. We normally make every effort to assist our patients and would contact their referring GP's when their Care Plan is not received as expected. After following this up again today, the Care Plan has now been received but would only have been applicable for use for your last appointment (based on when it was dated by your GP). You did use your private health cover for that session and unfortunately would not have been able to use the Care Plan as well. (Please note that Care Plans only cover a portion of consultation fees).
It is our mission to facilitate an efficient and stress-free experience for our valued patients and so it is always dissapointing if situations arise unintendly that are less than we strive for. Again I can only apologise for this failure in October last year.

Fantastic experience: I've been having TMJ problems for years and after years of struggle, it is way more manageable and haven't really much struggles with it since I came here for sessions. I didn't know postures (even in sleep) can affect or put pressure to your jaw. Mel is amazing and one of the main reasons I got through my jaw issues. She walked me through the right habits and exercises and relieve tension and pressure on my head, neck and shoulders

TMJ issues are complex and often sufferes don't know who to trust. Sometimes they will have treatment that is helpful but not effective longer term as the underlying issues are overlooked. That is why we educate our patients in all aspects of self-care including daily postures. Failing to do that will allow harmful postures and activities to keep re-stressing the TMJ and neck structures that are almost always responsible for peoples pain and symtoms. Fantastic experience: The physiotherapists here are really good. The centre takes a holistic approach to TMJ disorder treatment, giving effective exercises to do at home and also looking at other factors like diet, pillow choice, dental splints, daytime jaw tensing.

Fantastic experience: After 20 years of suffering with a damaged neck (by a chiropractor) and taking anti inflammatory pills, within 4 weeks Darron took away the pain. Fantastic experience: Thank you Pete for assisting my son in learning to manage his jaw issue. Your explanations regarding he biomechanics involved helped him greatly in learning to self manage the issue. He is no longer having symptoms and can even eat apples again. Fantastic experience: Melbourne TMJ are truly amazing and i'm so glad I decided to give them a go. I've been to multiple other Physios regarding long term jaw pain but had no success. Kevin immediately identified possible causes and after 4 weeks i've seen incredible results. My sleep has improved significantly and jaw pain has more than halved. Fantastic experience: I have been a patient here for many years first seeing Surbhi then Chris when Surbhi went on maternity leave. Both practitioners are extremely thorough and have been very gentle with me. I have over 21 years of chronic neck and back pain including moderately severe TMJ pain causing dislocations of the joint ( by dentists ) and on occasion whilst eating due to my Hypermobile ehlers danlos syndrome. I highly recommend this clinic for their up to date standards of practice and knowledge in their chosen specialty and all staff are incredibly knowledgeable, patient and explain things simply and slowly especially with me as I am deaf. The customer service is exceptional and I highly recommend this clinic to anyone with chronic/acute symptoms and related disorders to see the clinicians at this facility. Fantastic experience: When I saw Shan Liang (my practitioner) the first time at the clinic, I was in a very bad condition with dizziness, ear ringing, face and neck pain etc. He listened earnestly to my explanation, even though my English was not native level, so I felt very comfortable. After a couple of treatments, my condition has improved dramatically. He is the best TMJ practitioner I've ever met. I definitely recommend him to people who have the same symptoms as me.

Fantastic experience: After experiencing jaw and facial pain over many years, I was skeptical of physiotherapy being able to provide relief ... but it has. My bite is more even, and I am able to nip referred pain in the bud - myself! Fantastic experience: I had a locked jaw for two weeks, saw 2 gp and an ent and they said there is nothing I can do. I was in extreme pain. I couldn’t move my jaw and had tinnitus. Fantastic experience: Very friendly therapist. Very professional and will img to help me. Explained everything clearly especially before any procedures that may have been painful. This is my first session and hopefully has put me on the right track but time will tell. I have been having regular therapy sessions for 6 months now and I can say that my symptoms and aches are a lot more manageable now and I am able to control my symptoms myself through the techniques I have learnt. Thanks Peter for all your help. An update just over 1 year on of treatment and my symptoms have eased further thanks to Peter. He is able to identify my weak areas and provide targeted relief and follow up exercises for me to do at home.

Fantastic experience: About 6 months of being misdiagnosed and shunted from one physio / GP / neurologist / massage therapist to another, I contacted the TMJ Centre for an appointment. I've only had one appointment with Shan so far, but he was amazing. He was reassuring, explained everything about my TMD clearly and I have seen positive results / relief after just this one session. Highly recommend this place to anyone experiencing neck / jaw / ear pain connected with TMD.

Fantastic experience: After reading all the glowing reviews for Melbourne TMJ & Facial Pain Centre, all I can say is that I totally agree with them. I had no idea that all my mouth, tongue, jaw (grinding and clenching) and neck issues could be diagnosed so thoroughly and treated so efficiently. I am also most grateful to Dr Donny Mandrawa from the Dental Suites in Balwyn for referring me. I've had several visits with Chris and could already feel the difference after the first consultation. The guide to self treatment was also very beneficial as it has made me a lot more mindful of the many bad habits I've developed and how to begin unpicking them and applying much better practices.
