The GP also completed paperwork after your appointment concluded. Overall, the time spent on your appointment and paperwork by the GP was 50 minutes, which correlates to the higher consultation fee. We understand there was a wait prior to your appointment and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Some consultations can run longer than scheduled, particularly when multiple health concerns need to be addressed. We believe in giving each patient the time and attention they need, and we never want anyone to feel rushed or pressured during their appointment. We would like to clarify that you paid well below $500 for a total of four visits, with two of those visits being unrelated to your most recent presentation. We would appreciate it if you could double-check your transaction history to ensure there were no extra fees charged by your bank. We consistently advise all our patients that Shire Doctors and Dentists is a private practice, and each visit may attract a new consultation fee. This information is clearly outlined on our website and is explained during the appointment booking process to ensure transparency in our billing practices. Any follow-up visits related to investigations, including medical imaging and blood tests, require a separate consultation. This is an important part of the process and is also clearly communicated on our website. Due to medicolegal obligations, we are required to ask our patients to schedule a new appointment if there are results that need to be discussed or if the management needs to be adjusted based on new findings. This ensures the quality and completeness of patient care, which we understand can sometimes be frustrating. We fully recognize the financial pressures many people in our community are facing, and we empathize with this. However, as a private practice, operating with limited support from Medicare makes it increasingly challenging to balance the costs of delivering high-quality healthcare. Based on our internal review: Fees: It has always been our practice to inform patients of all fees involved in the consultation or procedure over the phone and upon arrival. Our records show that this process was followed when your mother made her booking. Additionally, all consultation and procedure fees are clearly outlined on our website, which we encourage patients to review when making a booking. Our fees are highly competitive compared to other practices, and this, along with the quality of service we have consistently provided over the past five years, is a key reason for our popularity. Appointment Booking: Your mother was aware that her appointment was scheduled for two weeks later, and this timeline was confirmed when she made the booking and via SMS. We believe she would have canceled the appointment had she disagreed with the schedule. Phone Call Delay: After the initial consultation with the practice nurse, your mother left the practice and was on the phone for 35 minutes, which caused delays and led to Dr. Celi having to wait. During this time, our team was unable to reach her. While we understand personal matters can arise, it’s essential to maintain timely and ethical communication in a medical setting. These unexpected delays disrupt our appointment schedule, which affects the experience for all patients. Cannulation Attempt: Dr. Celi did not attempt to insert an IVC, as your mother was understandably stressed and not fully prepared for the procedure. The attempt was made by our practice nurse, but unfortunately, it was unsuccessful. After assessing the situation, it was decided that your mother was not ready to proceed with the procedure, and it was canceled. The fee for the infusion kit was refunded, and your mother did not incur any charges for the procedure or the kit. Team Witness Accounts: Our practice nurse and administration staff did not witness the actions described in your review, such as Dr. Celi throwing gloves or yelling at staff. Dr. Celi maintained professionalism throughout the appointment. Even if you are dissatisfied with the service your mother received, we expect that the details of the situation be accurately described. Our team consistently upholds a respectful and professional demeanor. Our reception team endeavours to contact patients prior to their appointment if the practitioner is running late, however it is often difficult to gauge how long any one appointment is going to last. Just to clarify, for GP and Allied Health appointments, there is no cancellation or late fee. We hope this doesn't deter you from seeing our exceptional GPs again in the future.
